“Relaxing and Peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

My friend and I stayed at Casa Marina Beach for 2 weeks,Dec.13-Dec.27/11.This was the third year spent over Christmas at this resort because it has been so relaxing and peaceful. We have travelled with Sunwing Vacations each time as we found the price, service and efficiency to be dependable.Travellers should keep in mind that this country, similar to Cuba does not have the elegant, luxurious resorts found in some parts of the Caribbean. The price has always been very economical for us as well.Renovations have been ongoing at the resort the past 2 years. We were fortunate to have a freshly painted room, new furniture and flat screen TV ,Our balcony overlooked the pool and beyond the pool, the ocean. The grounds and gardens are well kept and creative, using some of the exposed reef to add interest to the tropical plants. The food is what we would expect in the Dominican, not fancy,we never went hungry. Christmas Eve Buffet is a work of art,a lot of preparation for this special night.Being right in the town of Sosua is a bonus as it is worth exploring to see how the people live and work. All being well we will return again to be part of this unique culture.

Room Tip: Each of 3 times we had rooms overlooking the pool and ocean. We have stayed on the ground floor as we...

“Casa Marina Beach....Jan 23-30th.”

I read all the reviews here right up to the day we left and I wasn't sure what to expect. I went with an open mind, as I have stayed in 3 stars before in Cuba, and I kind of knew what to expect.

I think it is a great resort, they keep the grounds, pools and beaches very clean. We stayed in room 943...lot's of privacy a beautiful view of the pool and ocean. Yes the downfall is we had quite a few stairs to climb, I had went to reception about being moved to a lower level room to be closer to my family, (as my parents moved to the first floor from the 4th because of the stairs, and my sons were already on the first floor) they asked us to come back the next day at 2:30 to look at another room which was on the first level, I decided to keep my room on the 4th floor...WHY you ask?? Because I found the first floor rooms smelt musty, they were dark and gloomy...and the privacy on the 4th floor was not even close to being comparable!! And the view from our room was absolutley amazing!!! That alone was worth the stairs!!

The food did get repetitive, but I am a VERY picky eater anyway...my family seemed to enjoy the meats, omelets and pastas. Lots to eat if your not a picky eater. COOKIES were the BOMB...LOL

The timeshare people were NO WHERE near as bad as others have made them out to be in their reviews. We never had any problems with them and they were actually quite friendly even when turned down.

The weather was great, rain showers in the morning or evening...but it didn't ruin our days at all. Always seemed to be during breakfast or dinner.

The one downfall was the waters are a rougher there, so if you have small children this may not be the place for you if you want to just take them into the pool that's fine. There are 3 of them, all beautiful and there is a shallow section and also a wading pool for little ones. I am not sure what is offered for activities as my sons are 16 and 18 and didn't do any.

I would recommend this resort for younger couples or singles. Would I go back? Not likely for 2 reasons.

1. because of the rough ocean, I could only be in for about 30 minutes before I would have to get out because it was upsetting my stomach, and I hear the ocean is always like that there. They have very few green flag days.

2. This resort is VERY BUSY, I like quiet laid back.

All in all, we had a great time, no bad things to say about the resort. They were very accomodating when needed, very friendly.

Go with an open mind and ignore the nasty reviews and remarks.

Room Tip: If you don't mind stairs and want ALOT of privacy take a room on the 4th floor. You can leave y...

“We love the people yet found Casa Marina Disapppointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

My husband and I just returned home from a 10 day trip in Casa Marina Resort.Jan.19-29. Food-Do not eat the steak at the buff. Steak at the Resturants that are included in resort package are fine. Steak at the Buff, everyone I met had abd.cramps after. I only kept with the chicken, veg. salads.Lobster was great yet you have to pay. Price was not bad. Room-maids did a great job cleaning it yet the fan in the bathroom was very loud-every time we turned the bathroom light on the fan would make a loud grinding sound. We called the front desk several times and no show all the time we were there. Front desk kept saying next day next day. There are guys walking around the resort trying to sell you time shares. The have staff shirts on so you think they are there for the resort to help you yet they are on commision and what to get you into the building with glass tinted window where the sales sharks are. One of them told us that he could get us tickets cheap to go see the dalphins-we paid him, then for 3 days said trip was cancelled and when we said we want our money back-he would not give it back. My husband and I had to go in the office yelling and screaming at them to give us our money. That is the only way we got it back because we were screaming infront to other customers. Why should you have to get to that point? Intertainment terrible so we went off the resort because the int. in the resort closed down too early. We did have fun out of the resort-met up with people from Canada and that even lived close to my husband and I. Look out for the hookers but if you are hanging on you husbands arm they want touch him. You are his protection.
this place is a 2 star with a wink.

“Great vacation for the price!! Don't believe all the bad reviews. It is what u make it.”

First day, upgrade your room to oceanview by giving a 20 to eliezer at main desk. Make sure you have heartburn and diarrhea medication. Greatest food off the resort is reydes sport bar and moto rentals. Saved my stomach and plays habs games!! Massages only off resort 500 for one hour, 500 extra for goodies. Only exchange money at bank. People always annoy you but not dangerous. Give a little get a lot! Have fun. Eat only at restaurants and buffet on reef side.

“Casa Marina, a beautiful face but little substance”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I just came back from the Casa Marina on January 23, 2012 with a serioius case of stomach problems. As noted by others the food was mediocre even in the specialty restaurants. That was the finishing touch to many disappointments. When we first arrived the room was not ready although it was a half hour later than the check in time. When we finally got to the room, it was clearly not superior in any way. The towel rack and toilet paper holders were missing and the room was dirty. When my wife took a shower the water pour into the bathroom becasue the shower poured water all over the place. My wife opened the door to have me clean up the floor and the steam went into the room causing the fire alarm to go off but no one ever came to check it out. Also the room had no phone so we could not even call for help.
They did change our room at our request. The second room was clean and the bed comfortable but they did not had fitted sheets and the mattress cover bunched up at night makit uncomfortable at times. The hotel advertised free boating but supposedly all the free water sports advertised were broken. I can't remember being in any hotel in the Carribean or central America except at Casa Marina where you could not drink the water. As for the entertainment, it too was mediocre mostly dance shows and Karaoke. Would it have killed them to bring in a singer or a magician? The dancers did try hard to please and did quite well for themselves. The Jacuzzi unlike any I have every seen was ice cold and was unpleasant to sit in. One shuold be aware that in January the water in cold and quite rough with caution or danger flags waving every day. The pools were beautiful but cold. The beach is gorgeous. Frankly I have never written a review before but felt people need to be warned.

Room Tip: If you are not happy with the room, complain.
