Being a native Dominican, I for one am extremely glad to finally see something in the Dominican Republic that recognizes the existence of gays; in addition to the right to stay at a place that accepts us-OPENLY...It was extremely clean, the staff was very courteous, and the food was delicious...Byron, the owner is very cool, attentive and professional, as is his manager-Jeremy...

One thing that I did-was eliminate the notion that I would be staying in an American Hotel...after all, I've stayed in hotels in Paris, France recently (world city capital), claiming that the rooms had A/C, when in fact they didn't....but everything I expected relative to Arcos was delivered....I don't go back to my country-the Dominican Republic-expecting for it to be as back home either in Miami, or New York City...if I were going to do that-why not just stay at home-logical conclusion-right?.....I plan on continuing visits to Arcos, will send them business, and will spread the good news!.....I'm glad that Byron(an Englishman), is there, as someone who sincerely loves my country, my people, and has invested directly into where I'm from-the Dominican Republic! Me and my partner of 14 years decided to go back to the Dominican Republic, this time we wanted to explore the north coast, we did some searches on gay site, and found the site of Hotel Arcos, we found it a bit pricey , but compared with US standards we hoped to treat ourselves. What a Disappointment, not only the room had leaks, the pillows smell putrid, the staff was never to be seen, mind you , not taken care of other patrons as we where the only ones there....
We decided to leave the next day, but the "Executive Suite " we paid in advance could not be reimbursed back to us. Horrible, just because its gay does not mean that it has to be a good hotel is all that we can tell you, when we got back I started to have a feverish sense all over my body, and my partner thought that I should have it check, as we had lunch in Hotel Arcos the first and last time, after some blood test they discovered that I had malaria, something that can be treated... at least we can here in the US, all the poor people we saw there in the proximity of the Hotel .... Begging and you just don't feel comfortable.
We are the lucky ones as we could move/and afford somewhere else, but if you want something special this place is not the one.

all i can say is this place has no way of recieving mail..atleast thats what he told me..the owner that is...

no credit cards either..

must sent western union at extra cost..

reports of no other guests at hotel.. we could accept that.

he took deposit saying if for any decent reason we could not go to club arcos when we booked he would refund monies..

guess what...broken leg with documentation.

he says he'll refund..


its been about 6 weeks.. no refund. no emails..oh well what can i expect of a guy who claims he cannot recieve mail..

Hotel Arcos is not as the website or brochure makes it look. We payed up front for 7 nights 'all inclusive' but was forced to move to another hotel after 1 night because we were so disapointed. The bedroom was dirty & smelly, the all inclusive food & drink was almost non-existent. There was only 4 other guests who were not happy either. Far from feeling we were in a safe enviroment ths hotel was in a suburban area where we did not feel welcome. When we checked out the hotel owner Stephen Byron Cooper apologised & gave me a credit note for the nights we did not stay saying he would forward the money to my bank account, this has never happened despite many emails & phone calls. I am disgusted that a fellow Englishman could rip-off people in this way. B.T.W. once we moved hotels we had a fantastic holiday in the Dominican Republic although we spent a lot more money than budgeted for we would return but definitely not to Hotel Arcos!
