Found this hotel on Trip Advisor and Frommers and changed our plans so we could include a few days at this resort. So glad we did, wish we could have stayed longer. Carla and Diane were great and Scooby (resort dog) is a great addition to the management team.
View is spectacular, grounds are impecable, great location.
Rooms are clean and well maintained - most have kitchen facilities. Free Wifi and computers on site that you can use as well.
Free parking but you don't need a car.
Restaurant is open from 8am to 10 pm - food was good.
Some vendors but it is like meeting locals rather than being pushed to buy.
Highly recommend and wish we had stayed longer.

We stayed in Velero for more than a week and it was a great experience. The hotel is well managed and the staff is very friendly. A special kudos to Joel and his team at the bar: you really made us feel welcome!

After Cabarete we stayed 3 days in an all-in resort in Punta Cana, but it was no match in any way for Velero.

There might not be another destination more wonderful to travel with kids!
Velero offers the best location in Cabarete - the only hotel with a STELLAR view of the bay and sun set, canopy beds for reading and sleeping, a half shaded pool most of the day (a dream for mom) a truly excellent supermarket just a block away (who imagined local arugula, tomatoes, the best mozzarella AND amazing fresh wholegrain bread hot from the oven). We always take an apartment with a kitchen which is perfectly equipped. My husband is entertained kite or wind surfing and when we don't walk to Kite Beach and meet him for lunch at La Gorditos (WOW...they serve be the best fish taco I EVER had), we float around in the naturally made ocean pools next to the Velero beach. If the kids get hungry they can always pick a banana off the stalk hanging in the restaurant. I have stayed in many hotels around the world but this one, especially under the new management of Diane Tremblay, might be the very friendliest of them all!

Rain was in the forecast for most of my trip so I wanted to pick a nice place where I could decompress. This place is well maintained and you're guaranteed a view. It was peaceful and I was thankful to be with other calm guests. Hung out on my balcony to grab some wifi. Enjoyed the major movie channels. Room was well lit for reading at night. Their egg breakfasts were great. Always had hot water. They have a gym in an adjacent building. It's located near a nice french restaurant, a supermarket, ATM, pharmacy, and a local pub. There is a sandy area beyond the pool with lounge chairs. And one big step down from this part to the main beach will lead you to the beach restaurants/bars in the center (or just take the road) and kite beach. Everyone was so warm. This is a great place to chill.
