i think it is not a marriott quality hotel, i cant believe how marriott bought this hotel. the hotel is not nice. When we went to have dinner they told us that the only food that we can eat was the buffet and there was no menu at all, the service in the restaurant was awful. we traveled with a baby and she needed like special food.
so the only place that had menu was the bar but we couldnt go in because of the baby.

“Overvalued, not relaxing, shouldn't be a Marriott, stay somewhere else”

I reserved a romantic package in this hotel for 189$ a night. At check-in, I insisted several times with the clerk to provide me with a room with a nice view on a high floor and I ended up on the lower floor having a few of a couple of trees, rather then having a view of the mountains that most of the other rooms have. At around 9pm, we got bothered by the upstairs neighboor that was walking around back and forth with high heels for more than half an hour. The noise eventually disappeared.. until 1.30am when the high heels came back and walked around for another long while thus waking us up. We then called reception to see if they could do something about it.. since the noise never stopped at around 2am we asked to be moved to another room, without neighboors upstairs. We thus moved to the other room to get waken up, this time at 7am by the same high heels. It ends up that the high heels lady was a grandmother taking care of kids in different rooms. I wasn't happy being waken up again, since the reception had assured me that there was no neighboors upstairs in the new room. I understand the hotel can't control its guests' noises but they shouldn't lie or get confused when it comes to assuring that no neighboors are going to bother the guests.
On another subject, we also had various experiences with malodorous smells that seemed to came from the pipes. To end our stressful stay (we went there to relax), I got the pleasure of showering myself in dirt when I realized that the bath drain was jammed.
I feel I got scammed paying almost 2 bills for an hotel in a remote area with that kind of experience.

“Great weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2009

We stayed at the Marriott Ixtapan de la Sal just for one weekend and it really was a very good expirience and great weekend. Although the weather wasn´t very sunny we stayed at the hotel pool as it is quite warm. We also had a look at the Hotel-SPA which makes a very good impression. Great for relax. Of course we also tried the thermal waters (aguas thermales) Ixtapan is famous for, and which you won´t find in the hotel. So, if you like it more private, I would recommend to go to public SPA of Ixtapan which is next to the Aquapark (not far from hotel). You can rent a private "roman tube" there with the "Ixtapan thermal water" for 2 persons. Great, really, we felt like "new" again after that. But back to the Marriott: the staff overall makes a really well-trained and professional, friendly impression. Great! The food we ordered was good, and at the breakfast buffet anyone should find sth. It is really worth to stay in a room with mounatain- view (little more expensive), and I recommend to reserve a room in the upper floor. There are also a lot of enertainment possibilities for children. For tasty mexican food outside of the hotel we recommend the great Restaurant "El Rincon de Puga "( please don´t confuse with "casa de Puga", which is just a "snack-bar").

“Nice hotel, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2009

We stayed at the hotel at a pretty busy weekend with a big convention at the same time. The service was very good, the rooms are good and all the views are nice (also the cheapest rooms). The pool is very nice for kids. The restaurants are average in terms of service, food quality and prices. Don't expect to eat too good. Not very convienient with small babies since the hotel is distributed among many floors and there is no easy way to move around it with a stroller. We didn't find a way to get to the pool without the need to pickup the stroller. No ramps.
The spa is very very nice. The massages are not so good. Inside the spa is a private pool available to all the guests (no children). Is a good option if you travel with no childs

“Restful and Restorative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2009

In need of a week of rest and retorative, I had originally planned the entire stay at Ixtapan Hotel and Spa. As I could not secure my reservation there, I booked two nights at the Marriott Ixtapan, and would move to the other hotel for the remainder of the week. The spa at the Marriott is fabulous. The hotel caters to Mexican aristocrats (I was the *only* American in the hotel), and it was a bit lonely as I had no one to connect with. Nonetheless, the stay was wonderful. Ask the spa to put a package together for you (I had a day-at-the-spa, including a light lunch, with personal service for $150 US! I felt like an empress.) The food was fabulous as well, and the grounds....well, you feel like you are in your own palace paradise. Wonderful. Go for the spa, the solitude, and the beauty.
