I went to this hotel about five years ago, and was one of my very best stays ever, charming, great service, great food and such, we came year after year, but the quality dropped like a rock. My last stay before this one was two years ago, and I promised never come back.
I had to tho, since I only had one vacation day and Ixtapan is pretty close from Mexico City, but then I remembered how much I hated staying in this hotel, here's a small summary of the problems I had, same that were reported to Marriott on their survey:
Si pudiera describir el hotel en una palabra sería "mezquino". No se ofendan y sigan leyendo.
El hotel lo conocí hace cinco años y era algo muy cercano al paraíso, pero la calidad tanto de la estancia como de la comida ha ido cayendo a pasos agigantados. La última vez que fuí fue hace dos años y me había prometido no regresar. Por problemas en mi empresa solo me quedó libre este fin de semana y por la cercanía a México me hospedé con ustedes, solo para reafirmar mi disgusto.
- There is almost null noise insultation on the rooms. You'll hear everthing happening outside like if it was happening in your own room.
- Oh, you think Marriott will always honor that thing about the beds and pillows? Not in this hotel.
- When the hotel was really empty, I asked for six towels in one of the pools. They told me their policy was not to giver more than five. Then next day, they took OVER AN HOUR to give me four extremely old towels.
- They charge you about 15 USD per night for parking. Anyway, I forgot one thing in my car, when asked them to bring it, they told me to follow one guy, since it would be faster.
- The service in the room, they do it after 17:00…
- But, the day of the checkout, personel came 15 min. before checkout limit to inform me they were going to clean the room, so we have to leave, or they'll be forced to charge me another night.
- A bottle of water (500ml) costs about 2 USD, "for your own safety" you're not allowed to bring your water. Right.
- BEWARE about the tips in the restaurant. They are ALREADY included (10%), anyway, they'll encourage you add more tip thanks to a nice line that reads "Tip/Propina"
- Since this is a hotel that looks forward the use of green technologies, they'll turn off the boilers for the pools, so you can enjoy a really nice cold water.
- The mainteinance in the kids areas are nearly inexistant, some of them are very dirty, I reported this on friday, by sunday thay had done… nothing.
- Talking about kids, there's an area were your kids can draw, or illuminate things, a piece of paper and some colored pencil will cost you around 3 USD.
- TV didn't work, it had "ghosts" and the signal was interrupted frecuently.
- Maybe it was because they used TV over IP… that would explain why there wasn't wireless (WiFi) coverage in most of the hotel.
- If you want to have a nice breakfast, it must be monday, since they put in the buffet sunday's leftovers
Check the other comments, and if you can AVOID this hotel, you'll thank me.
