The hotel is no palace. It is old, worn, not well maintained and in dire need some serious management attention to cleanliness.
We checked in and were treated very well by the front desk staff who were attentive, friendly and helpful. The bell stand was also very service oriented and quickly delivered our bags to the room.
Our first room was #624 and it was filthy. The carpet had numerous stains and burn spots. The bed linens were stained and looked like they had not been changed from the previous occupants. The bathroom had excellent water pressure but lacked hot water. The shower curtain was covered in black and green mold and the tile walls had not been cleaned. Dirt stains covered the bathroom walls. The sink area was clean, but the drain for the sink was missing. Upon closer inspection, the plug had apparently been pushed into the drain along with many cigarette butts. While the sink did drain well, the sight at the bottom of the drain left something to be desired.
We complained to management and moved to a suite at three times the price. The staff spent considerable time cleaning the suite before we checked into the new room. Upon our arrival, we found 8 out of 11 bulbs burnt out--and they had inspected the room before we moved in!!!! As we turned down the bed linens that evening we found rose petals between the sheets--left overs from the honeymooners who had occupied the bed the night before. Nonetheless, the room was cleaner and we ramained in the suite for the rest of our stay.
The restaurant on the ground floor was terrible. It was dirty, the dishes and silver were not clean and the food was cold. While the staff was friendly enough the food service was severely lacking. We ate all meals away from the hotel--even the street vendors provided a better and safer eating environment.
The elevators have large engraved boards with the hotel features. Notable among them is a club on the 8th floor. We ventured up one evening only to discover that it no longer exists and has not been in existence for more than three years--yet is still advertised as part of the hotel package.
Hotel does have ample secure parking and maintains a 24 hour security patrol.
There are no room safes and no coffee makers in the rooms.
The 360 degree sights of Songkhla from the hotel are spectacular.
