This hotel is in a wonderful area with direct beach access from the hotel. The sea facing rooms have balconies overlooking local islands and the Gulf of Thailand. Idyllic. You can stroll straight onto the foreshore from the hotel, wander around the many stalls selling fresh local fruits, drinks, food, coconuts, local souvenirs, or buy and fly a kite. There's no hussle and bustle, its relaxed and friendly, and interacting with the locals is fun and rewarding. Our last trip was our fifth visit in eight years, and have regretted seeing the hotel consistently deteriorate in this time. We thought the lack of upkeep might have been as a result of uncertainty caused by the violence in southern Thailand, but the hotel always seems to have a high occupancy. So it is both a puzzle and a shame to watch. Rooms are generally a little dated but ok. On our last stay our allocated room was in quite poor condition, but the staff happily arranged another room when we expressed our concerns. Restaurant is quite good with a comprehensive local menu, very reasonably priced. Overlooks the pool and beach. There is a large pool and childrens pool - great place to relax, but again the neglect becomes very evident . We would stay here again and would happily recommend the hotel - and hope that some reinvestment occurs soon to what locals say is the best hotel in Songkhla. Finally we have always found Songkhla a wonderfully interesting place to roam around and explore. Very few Europeans. Not at all touristy. Fantastic market that sells everytihng. Good restaurants, in particular we were taken to a restaurant built over the lake foreshore - the food was outstanding, the views and relaxed atmosphere brilliant, and it was so cheap. Enjoy Songkhla. We love it!!
