“Great location but needs some renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

This hotel is situated in a great location, only a stone's throw from the beach. A good coat of paint to clean up the rooms and a furniture upgrade would make a world of difference. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

There are no in-room safes, and no English language TV (news) channels are available. Wireless internet access is only available in the lobby. The buffet breakfast food selection is reasonable, but not designed for the Western palate. The omelettes and fried eggs are prepared in advance and will most likely be cold when served.

Being situated a bit further away from the centre of town, the choice of nearby restaurants within walking distance is somewhat limited. This hotel can get very crowded around Thai public holidays.

“Just OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2010

The company put me up there so didnt really have a choice, Anyways its an okok hotel in an excellent location. Only Thai language channels on the TV. The rooms looked lived in and the curtain and furniture showed signs of wear and tear.
Food pretty average.
Would opt for another hotel the next time.

“Lovely location, ok hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

The location is fantastic, with empty beaches stretching out in both locations. Songkhla itself is a non-tourist destination that deserves tourists. People avoid it because of the proximity to the troubles further south - but there have been no troubles for years in Songkhla itself. If you have kids there is an aquarium and a zoo well worth a visit. There are bike paths and opportunities for long walks along the beach. Prices in the area of rock bottom - sometimes a fraction of the Bangkok costs. And the rooms are big and comfortable and not nearly in as bad a condition as some people have indicated. It is a firm 3 star, and for 1300 a night, what would you expect? The buffet breakfast is excellent for this price.

OK, caveats. The BP SBH is just ok. It has seen better days, clearly with tourism passing Songkhla by it is not getting the business needed to keep it in shape. There is no gym. The pool is a bit beat. The whole hotel needs a big fix up. But it pretty clean and certainly comfortable.

In conclusion, well worth a visit if you are looking for something different. If you are just looking for a place to stay for business, or for holding a training, this hotel is fine as long as your expectations are calibrated correctly. And it is nice to be in a place worth visiting where you are the only tourist. We took the train from Bangkok overnight, and our boys loved it - as did we, with first class serving good Thai meals and cold beer, plus a bed turn down.

“Best Beach Hotel in Songkhla”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

This is the best beach hotel in Songkhla. Most of the sea view rooms offer a great view of the sea and the beach, but the land view rooms are less used, therefore facilities are less worn out. Some items in the rooms, esp. mattresses, should be replaced. The beach is nice and swimming in the sea is good. It is in the tourist area of Samila Beach and the well-known Songkhla Mermaid, so the surrounding area is crowded during daytime. Still the pool area can be enjoyed peacefully if not too many children are present. Nearby restaurants and Songkhla market have good Thai seafood to offer. There is an exercise park on the hill in front of the hotel. Be careful of the aggressive monkeys there. Reasonably priced rooms. You can get a better rate if you book through a tour company in Hatyai.

“The highlight is this hotel's wonderful location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

This hotel is in a wonderful area with direct beach access from the hotel. The sea facing rooms have balconies overlooking local islands and the Gulf of Thailand. Idyllic. You can stroll straight onto the foreshore from the hotel, wander around the many stalls selling fresh local fruits, drinks, food, coconuts, local souvenirs, or buy and fly a kite. There's no hussle and bustle, its relaxed and friendly, and interacting with the locals is fun and rewarding. Our last trip was our fifth visit in eight years, and have regretted seeing the hotel consistently deteriorate in this time. We thought the lack of upkeep might have been as a result of uncertainty caused by the violence in southern Thailand, but the hotel always seems to have a high occupancy. So it is both a puzzle and a shame to watch. Rooms are generally a little dated but ok. On our last stay our allocated room was in quite poor condition, but the staff happily arranged another room when we expressed our concerns. Restaurant is quite good with a comprehensive local menu, very reasonably priced. Overlooks the pool and beach. There is a large pool and childrens pool - great place to relax, but again the neglect becomes very evident . We would stay here again and would happily recommend the hotel - and hope that some reinvestment occurs soon to what locals say is the best hotel in Songkhla. Finally we have always found Songkhla a wonderfully interesting place to roam around and explore. Very few Europeans. Not at all touristy. Fantastic market that sells everytihng. Good restaurants, in particular we were taken to a restaurant built over the lake foreshore - the food was outstanding, the views and relaxed atmosphere brilliant, and it was so cheap. Enjoy Songkhla. We love it!!
