As much as we thoroughly enjoyed the temples of Bagan, our trip to Mt Popa was fabulous. Approx 1.5hrs drive from Bagan frequently stopping to take photos of the cows, goats and countyside. We stopped to see oil being extracted from peanuts using a cow attached to a harness and grinder. (very interesting). we also saw lollies and alcohol being made in a little thatched hut from sugar juice. The pagoda at the top of Mt popa itself was not spectacular by any means but the views were very nice. I say not spectacular but the area is still used for people to pray in so I cannot probably fully understand the significance to local people. There were guys cleaning the steps all the way up. I think I only saw one piece of monkey poo so it is not as bad as it may have been at one stage. The whole walkway to the top is covered so you are not directly exposed to the sun/rain(if it is raining) overall we enjoyed our trip very much and are glad we went.
