So...I'd agree with the other posters - this hotel is overpriced and the view is amazing! Locals come to visit and enjoy the gardens including a few courting couples of an evening. I ended up staying two nights just because I enjoyed the view and overall peace so much. No luck negotiating a discount though.
Some other points to add...
Don't assume this place will always have vacancies - the hotel was completely booked out the day after I left for a party.
Staff did speak English but staff on 'day shift' were much more fluent.
Distance into town is not a problem - it is a really nice short walk and I had no problems getting transport back there.
Lunch is definitely served at the hotel - and I was offered dinner too though I didn't take them up on this - so service isn't just limited to breakfast.
Room cleanliness - the bed and bath linen is 'tired' (i.e. marked) but clean, the rooms are obviously not intensively cleaned so the skirting boards and other areas can be quite dusty and a bit insect-y.
The location is beautifully quiet overall but the hotel is still next to a small road into town. Particularly if you are in one of the cheaper rooms which are closer to the road you will need earplugs to avoid being disturbed the ubiquitous beeping Indonesian moped!
One other tip - if you are there on a Saturday ask about horse racing. They seem to have regular races in the town.
