“A nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

This is a nice hotel with a friendly staff.

It is organized in a somewhat special way. There is a big name plate at the entrance on the ground floor, but that is the entrance to the office building this hotel is located in. The lobby and check-in/check-out counter are on the 5-th floor. This is also where the hotel restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner can be found.

The rooms start at the 23-rd floor and go all the way up to the 41-th floor. The top floor has a bar. The 3-rd floor has several speciality restaurants including a Japanese, Cantonese and Shanghai restaurant.

The room was small, but functional and complete. The bathroom was nice, especially the separate shower with a rain shower.

There are several movie channels, including HBO, showing English movies with Chinese subtitles.

The room interior appeared a little outdated however and the location of power outlets is not very convenient if you need to have several electronic gadgets charged.

The complimentary wired internet connection was sufficiently fast and did not need any special set up. I only needed to plug in the cable to get a connection. The desk chair is not suitable for extended work at the desk though. It is a simple chair which can not be adjusted. A true office chair would be more appropriate for this class of hotel.

I may have had bad luck, but in my room the air conditioning did not work. I could only get it to blow warm air. Since the room was small, it did get warm. I didn't inform the hotel staff though and given their excellent service I'm sure it would have been addressed if I had brought it up.

The breakfast provided very good value for the money. There was an extensive choice of hot and cold food, both from Asia and Europe/US, plus eggs cooked to order. A special word of praise goes to the pastry made by a French cook. I can definitely recommend these and the croissants and French bread in particular.

The one thing I was disappointed at was the price of the coffee in the SPR coffee shop located in the lobby. They charge 58 RMB for a medium sized latte. The regular rate for a venti latte is 31 RMB so this price is way too high in my opinion.

Overall a nice hotel though and I enjoyed my stay.

“Beautiful Downtown Taiyuan!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

Seems that this is the best hotel in town, located in the center of the city. A bit dated, not really focused for the international (read foreign) traveler.

I like it because the building is solid, it has 40 stories, and the food is good. The chiefs are from Brittany and Manila, and are both very nice and accommodating.

So for your next vacation to Taiyuan, give this hotel a try

“NIce hotel in center of city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 November 2011

This was a nice hotel with big room. Our only problem was that we had asked for a bed for our son (26) who was travelling with us and received a very small children's bed. We attempted to get another room or bed and we were told there were none. We had travelled with him or another adult child through different parts of

This was a nice hotel in the middle of the city. We walked around in the evening down various shopping blocks for locals but ended up eating in the hotel at a Japanese restaurant which was quite good. Room was large, clean and comfortable enough. Our only issue is that we were travelling with our adult son and has asked for a room with an extra bed and received a small portable bed that did not fit his 6 foot size. We attempted to get him or us a different room and we were told their were no other beds. He had an uncomfortable night. That was the only time we had this experience in our travels - all other extra beds were big enough. Breakfast included in our room was good.

“Wonderful Business Hotel in Taiyuan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

First, I must confess, I was upgraded to a suite upon arrival. The room was huge, complete with the normal suite accoutrements, including four botttles of complementary water, bathrobes, towels, and a fruit bowl. The bedroom had a kingsize bed, and the bathroom a nice tub but a great shower with rainshower and lower shower combo. Towels were new and good, room was quiet and televisions easy to operate and included CNN and BBC. Wifi was instantaneous with no sign on needed. Great!
English language skills were pretty good at the front desk, not great, but good enough. The staff was friendly and tried to be accomodating.
I tried the Cantonese Chinese restaurant on the third floor which was very good, although hardly anyone was there on a Wednesday night.
This hotel might command five stars, but I was so exhausted, I did not try any of the things like pool or spa or massage. What I can say is the bed was very good!

“Great modern high rise hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2011

This is part of my two week Henan / Shanxi tour, and was arranged by the travel agent. This is a great hotel in the middle of Taiyuan city. Quite a few shops and restaurants are within walking distance. However, the traffic can be overwhelming sometimes.

This is a high-rise with the hotel rooms from the 24 to 42 floors. There is a reception desk at the ground floor but the check-in is on the 5th floor. The check-in area is very huge and fancy.

The bedroom is very good size and beds are very comfortable. Free wifi in the room have strong stable signal and I was so happy that I could use my Ipad to check email, and surf internet.

The breakfast buffet is on the fifth floor and has many variety of Chinese and Western food with egg and noodle stations. Please note that the Chinese dishes are in a large side room. Many of my tour mates missed that until I alerted them. If you prefer Chinese breakfast, please keep this in mind.

I would recommend this hotel to my friends.
