Huge entrance foyer and at the far end is the reception. We were welcomed well and, after a little trouble understanding each other (their English was average at best) we were taken to our room. Not disimilar to the Holiday Inns but just a little more dodgy - tired towels; limited channels on the TV; no access to wi-fi. But comfortable beds, clean and excellent service. The dining room is vast with a touch of overkill with it's central (dining room) fountain and sparkley lights. Breakfast (for the western palate) was poor. Had one evening (Chinese) meal and it wasn't tasty at all. However, the setting on the Yong Jiang Hotel is superb - right on the huge riverside. Worth a walk in the evening across the massive bridge to watch the local people singing and dancing in the riverside park. At the back of the hotel is also a street of streetfood sellers. Worth a look but perhaps (unless you like BBQ'd seahorse; sparrow; alligator etc) it may not be the best place to eat. All together a good hotel and at £51 per room per night you can't complain.

I stayed in the hotel for 3 days in 2 different rooms. In both rooms, it was very clean. However, the 1st room had spoilt air-conditioning and shower facilities. I was then switched to another room. The aircon was working in this room. However, the shower head was not very good as the water came pouring out like a tap!

Stayed 5 nights then later a further 3 nights. Found the staff were eager to help. Enough English to aid my inquiries. Could not fault the service. The food is very Chinese but thats what you come to China to experience. Well done to management and staff. I will stay again

Contrary to the disparaging remarks I have read here, my stay for 9 nights could not have been better. I also arrived late at night, and I also had booked online using a credit card. I produced a copy of my booking, and the staff immediately confirmed that all was ok. I found my room (economy rate) to be above average, with a partial view of the river. Everything was clean, and everything worked perfectly.
As for the restaurant. It was HUGE !!!! Now, I'm Australian, and accustomed to western food, but having travelled a bit, I learn to adapt to local cuisines. I found the FREE breakfast (no-one else seems to mention that fact !!), was more than adequate. with plenty to choose from, including many plates of fresh fruit.
The hotel service? Exceptionally good. Wherever I went, the staff was always smiling, and willing to help (even late at night). You know, it does help if you put on a friendly face too. And remember, we are visitors to their country. Pity more travellers don't appreciate that.
I would definitely recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Nanning.
By the way, my visit was in May, 2006, not 2009, but this site did not allow me to go back beyond 2009.
