I have stayed at the Regal a number of times since March 2008 as my husband's company have an arrangement with this hotel.

The rooms are larger than the average Chinese hotel and this year the hotel has been undergoing refurbishment. The hotel room has everything you would want whether your visit is for leisure or business. The internet connection is at no charge. The bed is firm but very comfortable. There is also a nice swimming pool.

The staff are friendly although English speaking is still limited, but if you need help the assistant managers who are based in the foyer, speak very good English.

There is a mix of Western and Chinese food at breakfast and the food generally is good qualtiy and good value. The buffet at dinner is worth a try.

The hotel has a car service or the bellboys can call a taxi.

As a previous reviewer commented, be very careful crossing the streets - cars will continue to come from around the corner, even if you are crossing on a green light.

We haven't stayed in any other hotels in Guiyang, but my husband and I have just come back from visiting a few other cities in China and the Regal is our favourite when you compare value for money.

We stayed at the Regal when we adopted our daughter in Guiyang. Because we were staying for several days and had a child with us, we upgraded to a suite. It was very affordable compared to comparables in the US. The living area is very large. We were able to move furniture out of the way and had a large play area for the babies to gather and play when it was rainy outside.

Gorgeous furnishings, 2 marble bathrooms, large living room area, and good sized bedroom. Mattress was hard as a rock, but we found that all over China.

The restaurant was ok, better than most of the others we frequented while in China. Everyone was very friendly, but communication was a little difficult. Not much English spoken.
They tried their best, though, to figure out what we needed.

There were nice little shops and restaurants within walking distance, and it was so easy to catch a cab to go anywhere. Suggestion... while in a cab, just keep your eyes closed and don't watch. Once you've seen the traffic in China you'll know what I'm talking about. Road signs, lane markings and stop lights are just a suggestion.

We plan to go back in a few years and look forward to staying at the Regal again.
