“Dramatic view from rustic setting.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

As usual with Serena, the staff were very gracious. The rustic style construction fits in with the location at the top edge of the crater. Buffet style food is good, and food service excellent. The view of the crater from the lodge is breathtaking. This is a Safari Lodge, not a 5 star city Serena, and fits that purpose very well.

Room Tip: Rooms are spread out, so request a room close to center if you don't like walking.

“Natural Wonder”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This beautiful hotel sits on the very rim of the Crater. You wake in the morning looking out into the crater and see the sunrise and set over the crater from your room
The staff were brilliant and spoke good English. The room was really lovely.A huge bed and huge bathroom
The food was Buffet style as it is in many safari lodges and was good and plentiful
The Fire in the bar was welcome as it gets a bit chill that high up at night

“Our favorite hotel in Northern Tanzania”

After staying in several other locations during our Northern Tanzania safari, I can easily say that the Ngorongoro Serena is our favorite, being at the top for the things that matter most to us in a hotel. Although the furnishings of the rooms are basic, which is true of every other location, the shower has the best water flow and pressure we have experienced on safari, the room is ample and the balcony view over the crater is fabulous. There was ample air circulation and coolness at night for a great night of sleep, again unique among all the other lodgings we stayed at. The internet and wifi, which is free, is availalbe throughout the facility and worked flawlessly throughout our stay, the only lodging for which I can say that. The laundry service, with same day service available on request, was outstanding, and greatly welcome after several lodging with subpar offerings in that area. The staff provided excellent and friendly service. The food was varied and excellent at all meals. We felt very lucky to have stopped there in themiddle of our safari.

“What a disappointment!”

We had read that this was one of the best rated hotels in the world! Well the view of the Crater is one of the best in the world, but the hotel is shopworn and tired. The towels were thin, the bedding darned and threadbare. The food was not as good as a Best Western or a Holiday Inn. We stayed at 2 prior Serena Lodges as we made our way west from Arusha to the Western Serengeti. The food at the Mountain Lodge, Lake Manyara and Ngorongor was all the same at the three places, boring, repetitive and over cooked. Serena can offer outstanding and luxurious accomodation, but it wasn't at any of there places.

“The best Serena Lodge we've been to”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

We had a one-night stay in this lodge during our Kenya-Tanzania safari. Great views of the crater right from the lodge - both from your room, and from the restaurant.
This is the only lodge, where the restaurant is not open-air (glass windows are closed for breakfast/dinner), therefore no mosquitoes!!
Food is adequate, better than in any other Serena Lodge we’ve visited (Serengeti and Manyara), and service at meals is just superb.
Ngoro-Ngoro is a must-have place to visit if you are on safari, just make sure you have whole day in the crater (2 nights stay), or you miss all the fun – cheetahs, rhinos and flamingoes.

Room Tip: ask for first floor room rather than ground floor - better views!
