“A taste of the old world”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed as a couple for only one night, but greatly enjoyed it. Garden was relaxing, food was (typically in Tanzania) great and people friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and quite comfortable. Toilets and shower were clean. There is a certain old world vibe to this place which we found charming - I was reminded of Hemingway for some reason... Anyway, from other reviews it seems the hotel's main selling point is its closeness to Kili. Although we did not have the chance (yet!) to climb Kili, we did love to see it in the nearby distance (tip: although some people were snapping away at the view of Kili by the garden bar, the best place to check it is between the pool and the restaurant - early mornings or late afternoons are the best times). All in all, a lovely hotel beautifully located, with plenty to offer the wayward traveler.

“very convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

this is an old hotel, but is well kept, with clean rooms, good service, decent food and a beautiful garden, all at a reasonable price. One of the best value vor money in a month's trip across East and Southern Africa. Even if one does not aim at the Kilimanjaro top, there are interesting walks in thenearby forest one the slopes of the mountain, and kind local people are willing to accompany and guide you around.

“Super starting point for Mt. Kilimanjaro climbing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

We stayed in Marangu Hotel when we climbed Kilimanjaro in September last year (2011). We loved the surroundings and the service in the hotel. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

We are especially grateful to our crew:
Eliaon (guide);
Josephat (guide assistent);
Julias (cook)
and our porters: Fukahini, Paul and Iddi.
They've been a great help and we wouldn't have reached the summit without them. The climb was amazing and we recommend it to every mountain lover.

Special thanks to Marangu Hotel's staff for help in organizing our trips to Tarangire and Arusha National Parks.

“Ask for Dismus and Martin! Superb guides”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We climbed Kili in September and stayed at the hotel before and after. The advice and pre-climb checks were all excellent. We had so much confidence in attempting such a tricky feat with the thorough advice and guides provided. I knew we were in safe hands with the guides, but was also good to get that extra nudge to do the last few hundred metres to the crater rim, as I really felt the pain at that point! We had two guides- Dismus & Martin who spoke good english and really looked after us at that point. From literally carrying my stuff and giving me much needed squares of chocolate. They really knew what they were doing and could not recommend them highly enough. The result is the 'money shot' of us stood at the summit of Kili...the most incredible experience of my life.

“We always use this hotel for our Mt Kilimanjaro trips!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 November 2011

After using a couple of different local companies to support our Mt Kilimanjaro climbs and not being comfortable with their honesty or how they treated their porters, we found Marangu Hotel - and have been delighted with them every year. Their communication is honest and straightforward, their property is excellent, and most importantly their trekking staff are well trained and well treated. Yes, you can find cheaper outfits, but you can't find a better outfit. And do you really want your Kili climb to be on the backs of poorly paid porters?
