“Brilliant spot for a vacation - ticks all the boxes”

Turtle Bay was the perfect place for a family vacation over Christmas & New year 2011. The location is perfect, right on a beautiful bay that is like a huge swimming pool with a good reef to snorkel right at your front door. It is very close to must see spots such as Port Olry, Champagne beach, Million dollar Point, The President Coolidge for amazing diving & the Millennium caves for an absolutely awesome adventurous tour. Kayaking to a deserted Island & the Blue holes was a highlight. Our interconnecting family rooms had more than enough space to accommodate us. The food was a stand-out every day, especially the soufle! Our fussy teens have never eaten so well. We met guests from other resorts who came just to sample the food at Turtle Bay. All the staff were delightful, perhaps the younger girls come across as being a little shy to begin with but were always willing to assist with a smile. Karl & Patricia kept a watchful eye to ensure guests were looked after & were on hand to arrange any tours/activities (Kenneth's tours are great...do them all if you can!)

Room Tip: We had interconnecting family rooms, one had a double & a single bed, the other had a double &am...

“Cheap but not cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Has this place run out of puff? It was nothing like the reviews in Lonely Planet - sure, it has great views, a great location but the overall impression was that we were at a place whose days were numbered. The pool is one of the saddest I've ever seen - take it out, for heavens sake, what an eyesore! And with all this natural beauty all around, what's with with the solemn staff? One of the delights of Vanuatu is the sound of laughter - didn't happen here... however it is a good base for day trips to other places .

Room Tip: The family room down the very end has a serene setting

“Great!”

We stayed here for 6 nights as a group of 5 friends over 2011/2012 - the location is amazing and we had something fun to do each day (kayaking, diving, millenium caves, snorkelling). It's by no means fancy, but clean and the restaurant serves the most delicious fresh food. We would definitely return :)

“Would love to come back again”

We were lured here by the promise of beautiful views, warm turquoise oceans, great snorkelling - and were not disappointed! The resort is comfortable, but not luxurious. The meals served in the restaurant by warm and friendly staff were freshly prepared, tasty and well presented. The continental brekkie (included) provided a fruit salad and toast that was enough for a moderate eater. Bring grocery supplies if you would like to prepare some meals in your small kitchenette (limited perishables though as fridge is small). Mosquito repellant essential to bring, fans were very helpful in keeping mozzies at bay in rooms. Paddling to nearest Blue Hole was like an Amazon jungle adventure (but with crystal clear water). Also worthwhile is a visit to Port Olry/Champagne Beach - enquire first though about cruise ships that might be visiting the locations. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would love to come back with the kids.

“Basic but cheerful”

We were a family with a 9 and 11 year old travelling also with another family. We had initially expected the accommodation to be basic but had chosen turtle bay because of its great location to many of the blue holes etc that we wanted to see. We thought that the food was excellent, especially the lobster mornay, and the kids certainly had variety to choose from. We didn't mind that there was no T.V. as the peace and quiet was a lovely change. We stayed in the oceanfront family room, not always a warm shower, but luckily we were there in December.
The kids found heaps of hermit crabs in front of the unit, which kept them amused for ages. The view from the unit was beautiful and enjoyed hearing the sound of the ocean.
Our advice is to bring a torch, because the generator cuts out at midnight and the battery back up usually ends around 3 am (so does the fan), so you may have a few hours with no electricity. Also don't forget to bring mossie repellent.
While we were at turtle bay we used it as a base to explore other things such as the blue holes, champagne beach and millenium cave. Millenium cave tour was excellent however caution for those with low levels of fitness and very young children. in saying this the local villagers who were the tour guides were nothing short of fantastic. If you do this tour make sure that you bring some money to buy a sarrong from one of the villages (about 2000 Vatu) this helps also to go towards childrens school fees.
Champagne beach was a highlight (great snorkelling) and beautiful white sand.
Patricia at the resort was very helpful and friendly and went out of her way to make our enjoyable. Over time the rooms will need updating and also the fixing of some flyscreens to stop the mozzies. Overall, we recommend turtle bay as a great stop for families when exploring Santo.
