Atata Island is a slice of paradise. With only 250 residents (all friendly beautiful Tongans!), it is truely the real Tonga.
You can snorkel the reef, surf the outer reefs, attend church and listen to the incredible voices of the church choir, spend all day swimming. The food is spectacular, with genuine Tongan delicacies on offer such as octopus (that tastes like Lobster) and Ota Ika (raw fish in coconut milk), and Pina Coladas served in the pineapple- it is a foodies paradise too.
We were serenaded every night by a host of amazing local singers, and woke every morning to the gentle lapping of the almost bath temperature water just metres from our (room).
Half an hours boat ride from the mainland, you really feel isolated in the best possible way, and the sensation is relaxing, revitalising and exhilarating.
Thank you to Lusia and her wonderful staff for a sublime two nights and two days we will never forget!

I want to share the experience I had with my kids at the Royal Sunset Island Resort. We had been there previously for a day trip. Which was fantastic.The next time we decided to go we spent a weekend there.We were met on the jetty by the very welcoming manageress,along with a drink. The hospitality just gets better after that. They looked after our needs all weekend. Nothing was a problem to the staff. We spent the whole weekend in the water utilizing the all the activities available. It is a stunning location to relax, have a cold beer & soft drinks.Just spending quality time with my kids. They had a very memorable time here in Tonga and one of the highlights was the Atata Island trip. We will return for another weekend of fun in the sun.It is stunning location,beautiful sunsets,great photo opportunities and great family memories.It was a hassle free trip and easy.My thanks goes out to all the staff for all their efforts. My husband and I were looking for a few days break from the main land and were not disappointed. A stunning island with warm crystal blue water right at our door step, great snorkeling just meters swimming out from our accommodation or there is a boat which will take you out. Best sunsets I have ever seen, great food and very relaxing. There is a small village on the island and it was a wonderful experience being welcomed by them into their church for Easter Sunday and being invited for the feast afterwards. We will definitely be back and thanks to Murray, Lucia and Bruno for the wonderful time we had. Lorraine and Jeff

We recently returned from a two week break in Tonga and after spending the first week on Nuku álofa we journeyed to Átata Island and it is there that we really began to relax and unwind. From the moment we arrived to the final parting at the International Airport we were treated with kindness and respect. The Tongans are lovely and the resort is set up for you to do as little or as much as you choose...we chose little! Food was excellent, service above and beyond and while the fales were basic it suited us as we do not go for all the airs and graces! We will definitely return and wish Lucia and the team all the best in getting the place back in order as there were little issues that came up daily but we were unwilling to let them spoil our overall experience.
