“Vumbura Plains is excellent!!”

We stayed at Vumbura from 29 dec 2011 till 1 jan 2012. Flew in from Johannesburg to Maun, then approx 30 minutes with a chessna plain to Vumbura. Great welcome at the lodge by most friendly staff!! Plan on gaining some weight while you are there, breakfast at 06.00, lunch/brunch at 11.00, tea at 16.00 and dinner at 19.00, and all fantastic considering the fact that its located in the middle of nowhere. The accommodation is fantastic, rooms without walls, open toilet, fantastic huge soft beds and a great outdoor and indoor shower. Large sundeck with sitting area, private plunge pool and sunlounges. Excellent and very friendly management especially the german manager!! Great game viewing by Zee - his motto: its not for nothing that the word sometimes means some times you see something, some times not.. but we loved each and every game drive!
No internet and no phone reception, but helpful staff offered to send out an email to our relatives on our behalf.
To our suprise on new years eve they organised a bush dinner party, which was a great treat. Sundowners are also a special treat. In short Vumbura is exceeding expectations!

“Superb viewing, stylish camp, excellent food”

Recently stayed at Vumbura South Camp and was very impressed with camp, excellent beds, sitting room adjacent to bedroom and huge outdoor area with sitting area and small pool. Had a fabulous time here after staying at three wonderful camps and was not sure what to expect but it exceeded my expectations. The staff, top notch, excellent executive chef from UK and lots of surprises and I'll leave it at that. Viewing excellent, four young adult lions, a fabulous viewing on two days of a young leopard and 23 wild dogs - who could ask for anything more. But there was more. Definitely a camp to twin with Duba Plains for superb viewing.

Room Tip: Stayed at Zarafa, Duba Plains, Selinda Camps if anyone if looking for other camps to stay in. Have...

“GREAT !!! And tastefully done.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

This was our second camp on our trip. The property is superb, the accommodations are outstanding!!! Huge accommodation with our own plunge pool, huge outdoor patio and great outdoor shower, large indoor sitting area, huge shower, his and her sinks, a fridge !!!. You name it you got it. Excellent food, although if you are not careful, you will easily eat too much.

This camp was the best of the three that we ultimately visited. The Botswanian guides and workers are the best !!!!

“The Wow in Camps”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

Loved everything about the camp and the entire experience. The room was fantastic huge private deck and private pool. It was rustic in some ways and yet an upscale adventure.
There is a refrigerated cooler that is stocked with all kinds of goodies. The shower is unique but fun. The first night was a bit strange because you could hear the animals. Wonderful afternoon naps between drives. The staff was fun and very approachable. The food was excellent and there servers exceptional. Most important we saw much more and varied wildlife in an unfenced setting. I have never thought much of birds but they were a bonus that we never expected. I would be careful to avoid the rainy season but the Okavango Delta was far superior to Sabi Sands.

Room Tip: We had the last room or 7th out. You will think you are in your home with no neighbors

“Great game drives”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Vumbura lodge was re-built this year following an extensive fire.

We stayed here on the recommendation of our travel agent as Mombo camp (our first choice) was fully booked.

Vumbura is a stylish tented camp (the tents are more like villas with canvas walls). The accommodation food and service were very good but not quite up to the standard of the other five star camps we visited.

Due to the Okavango's large population of dangerous animals, and the fact that Vumbura Plains is completely unfenced, guests are escorted back and forth to their tents after the dark. Air horns are provided in the rooms to call for help in case of an emergency as there are no telephones. The lack of a fence does however provide a much closer to nature experience, with elephants drinking from the plunge pools and eating from the Jackalberry tree on the deck and hippos splashing about in the water just outside our tent during the night, which makes the stay quite exciting.

The 4x4 land-based game viewing was the best we experienced. This was in contrast to other visitors to lodges the Okavango Delta we spoke to, who told us that they had seen little game due to high water levels. We also did a very interesting boat safari and sighted hippo’ and elephants in the water.

Our ranger, Lazarus, was first class. The lodge staff were very friendly and professional.

I thought that the camp was very good and I enjoyed my stay there.
