“one night in caracas”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

i ve been one night between two flights overthere, price was 400 bsf for a room, if you are 2 persons, its a good deal, rooms are small but clean, the bar and restaurant is okay, normally the tranfer from and to the airpot are included, but we had to wait more than an houre to get there, although better take a taxi, costs 150 bsf, its mayby a nogo area, but there are not really go areas in caracas, I have a girlfriend in venezuela who works for a travelagency and she recomanded this places because her boss puts everyone overthere in cas of problems with flights, trust me, there is no better solution in that pricerange . . . . 400 bsf whas last week in change on gray market about 35 euros (for 2 persons !!)

“excellent budget option for a short stay before or after the flight”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

The official name of the hotel is: Hotel Catimar Puerto Viejo. We (4 people) stayed there for 1 night before flight back to Europe and 1 of my friends had to stay 1 day longer. We reserved the room over the phone (in Spanish) a couple of days earlier. Rooms were really small with tiny window, the air-conditioning quite efficient, the sheets were clean. The price was really low comparing to other hotels close to the airport. There is free internet near reception. Arrived in the morning (the night bus from Carupano on the West Coast), we were greeted and acomodated shortly- we were offered rooms just after they were cleaned, before noon. The staff was really helpful- they reserved the second night for my friend without any prepayment as we were not sure if she can get on our flight or not- finally she had to fly 1 day later. We asked the receptionist what was the best way to get to Caracas centre- we wanted to get a glimpse of it. And we were given the best (safest) option: to get a free lift to the airport and then to take an airport bus to the city centre. The free airport transportation is so convenient: when You are at the airport go to the in formation office and they will find a person from Catimar that will assist You to the small bus. When planning the trip from a hotel to the airport allow more time- there is traffic and You should always allow more time in Venezuela, also for airport formalities. But the distance hotel-airport is really short. The restaurant in the hotel is overpriced but You can get a decent food. The whole area seemed safe during the day, but You should be cautious everywhere in Venezuela and especially when visiting Caracas area. The beaches of Catia La Mar are awfully dirty; one should not visit this hotel for sunbathing or swimming, this is a perfect spot for an overnight stay when You fly to/from Maiquetia (Caracas) airport.

“had reservation- they sold our rooms- no one would help us”

I had emailed Luis to make the reservations for 11/21/2011. one night, 2 rooms and he told me I could pay in cash when we arrived. We arrived in the airport late because every flight we took (that was associated with Venezuela) was delayed for more than 2 hours.
No one pick us up, so we took an over priced taxi to the hotel. There was 2 night people there and they said we did not have a reservation and there was no more rooms. Then they would not give us other options. They finally help us find another place but I had to fight with them in Spanish and they were reluctant to say the least. Word to the wise- I have traveled been to many countries in South and Central America and have never found people to be soooo lazy and reluctant to give service. I guess it has something to due with the socialized system and the fact that they will still have a job even if they don't really work.

Small room. There is no room service, there is not potable water in room, must goes downs stairs and buy at the public bar wich close at 1am. Small restaurant with not good waitres, The view is not good and the location seems not safe, It is not a Hotel, it is a MOTEL. In the other hand, basic shower, smal 32" flat tv with local channels, good air conditioner, every 15 minutes transfers to airport, (5 minutes ride) in basic comfort small buses. You must ask to be awaked in order to get to Maiquetia International Airport on time.
