“Waku Lodge - great stay”

We travelled w/ Tom Webb (below), and fully agree. Waku is a delightful outpost of comfortable civilization in the midst of the Venezuelan Amazon jungle. The torrential spray as you are hiking behind Sapo Falls will blind you, so be prepared. If you have scuba booties to wear, they will do great. The guide is a local Indian wearing only loincloth & feather.

“Great stay November 2011”

We stayed here as part of a visit to the angel falls area. It was a very pleasant surprise, with comfortable rooms and lovely views. Macaws and toucans roamed around the ground, adding to the atmosphere. The hike to Sapo falls is not to be missed; you will get very wet (wear a bathing suit) and need good footwear (running shoes, hiking boots or good water shoes). The staff was very helpful, and the meals were good.

Great location overlooking the falls. Lovely grounds. A good base to explore the area. Staff helpful and pleasant. Food in the restaurant adequate and plenty of it.

“Money Stolen In Waku Lodge”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

We stayed for 3 days between 15th and 17th of May in Waku Lodge and our money is stolen just after our arrival. The day is 15 May 2011 between 14:00-17:00. There are cameras everywhere in Waku Lodge, but the staff does not want to show the cam records. They said the cam line is not working because of thunder stroms. To a great extend it was true, but as we have seen the camera line which shows our rooms was perfectly working. The staff in Waku Lodge is not helpful, they even didn't mention about our situation to the administratior. They just said we believe you and go to police. They know nothing will change if we went to the police. It is a part of the plan. I had 100$ and 800Bs. but they got 100$ and 200Bs and 600Bs left in the room. What I think is that it is not a simple theft but a well organized robbery. Everybody in Waku Lodge knows what is going on, but not want to help us.

I don't suggest you to stay in Waku Lodge. If you still insist on it, do NOT leave your money in the room.

“A great place to stay and exactly what I was hoping for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

This is an amazing place to stay in Canaima. I stayed here a few years ago and I definitely would go back. The resort blends in with the surrounding very well and the views are incredible. The accommodations are modest but clean for it being in the middle of a rainforest. As someone already mentioned, the luxury is in the location! The staff was friendly when you approached them and were very accommodating. The tours are great if you want to explore the surrounding areas, including all the many waterfalls.

One thing I’d like to mention is that I did get very sick during my visit. I believe it was from the river water that I may have accidentally ingested going under a waterfall. The staff knew I was sick and came to check on me the next morning. I kept myself hydrated with Gatoraid, but the Immodium I had, for just such an emergency, did absolutely nothing. Without my asking, they approached me and offered to take me to a doctor’s office which turned out to be in a field in the middle of nowhere. I got medication that did the trick. A very big thank you to the resort staff for looking out for me and taking me to/from the hospital!!!
