“Overall, Up to Marriott Standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

I stayed here in January 2012 for 6 days on a business trip. The hotel staff at the front desk all spoke English which was important to me as my Spanish is extremely poor. The room I stayed in was very nice; the air conditioning worked well and the mattress was extremely comfortable. The hotel provided enough free bottled water for tooth brushing, etc.

One negative was the shower - the drain was very sluggish and water accumulated pretty quickly while I was showering. I reported it to the front desk but it remained sluggish and seemed to get worse as the week went on. Also, if you go to this hotel and are used to having facecloths for your shower or bath, you will need to bring your own, as the hotel provides only hand towels and bath towels.

Food was good at the hotel restaurant but a little expensive. One night service was extremely slow and there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. The maitre'd and waitstaff were all very friendly and professional. The breakfast buffet was very good with a wide selection of food items. On three days, I required wake-up calls. I got the calls on two of the days, but one day no one called.

The hotel gift shop did not accept credit cards, only debit cards or Venezuelan cash which was a bit inconvenient.

On one day, I requested a take-out food order for the next morning. The person at the front desj was extremely friendly and attentive to this request and the next morning, everything was ready to be picked up as requested. I feel they did an outstanding job on this.

Overall, I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

“It must improve back to what it was.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

An excellent hotel is not up to the five star standard it once was. Bed covers were smelly and room repairs seemed to be done by rookies. Service also was average at most.

“Not the Marriott experience you expect”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The JW Marriot hardly should deserve the JW title. There are several issues with the hotel that you should be aware, first is that they will charge you for your stay in advance in USD billed from the US, so when you get there you have been billed already. Second please avoid being lodged in the tower where the lobby is, they have or should have a pipe problem, as all the floors smell like foot, horrible experience. I was in the 10th floor (avoid it at all costs) and the bathroom smelled like there was something dead in there. For +300 USD per night you expect prime service and you get a hellish experience with little consideration, the shower is badly designed as it is manual and splashes water all over the floor. Towels feel like they have been in use for 10 years. The cabs from the hotel charge you terribly high prices and they send you in a small smelly hyundai without any AC.

The sad part is that this is one of the best hotels in Caracas, so you can imagine the others how they are. So expect to pay ultra high prices for a horrible experience.

“JW Caracas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Not cheap, but what is in Venezuela? The 1 bedroom suite was spacious and comfortable. The executive lounge was fantastic, with excellent staff on hand taking care of my every need. Loved the skywalk, a glass enclosedwalkway at the 17th floor between the north and south towers. Would love to go back for a visit again soon.

“Good but not great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

This is a good hotel, but for $400/night you expect a lot more. The hotel is in a good business location, it's clean and the staff if very polite, however there are some drawbacks:

1. Believe it or not, there is no wifi internet in the rooms! There's only a wired connection, so if you travel with an ipad or macbook air, your out of luck. It's out of my comprehension how a hotel like this, dedicated to business travelers does not offer this simple and cheap service to it's users. This alone is a fact that will make me choose a different hotel in my next stay in this city.

2. The room service is mediocre at best, it took them almost one hour to deliver breakfast and then the eggs were cold and the toasts chewy since they covered them with a plastic film. Also take note of the prices, $35 dollars for a hamburger with fries or $30 for a chicken Caesar salad.

3. Rooms in the north tower are very noisy, during the night there was a wedding in the basement and even tough we were on the 8th floor, the music was clearly audible, something that could make some people very uncomfortable. In the morning the traffic outside was also very loud.

If you are willing to spend $400/night there are far better choices in Caracas.

Room Tip: Avoid the north tower, it is much more noisy
