“Nice hotel I will visit again, no complaints, Rci crown rating, visit & make yr own assessment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 July 2011

june 2011 - totally enjoyable experience will visit again, im not sure of the experiences of the other reviewers or the benchmark used to rate the hotel, but i felt like they stayed @ another best western hotel.stayed June 2011 7dys, staff was warm helpful, bi-lingual and assisted us with all our concerns, in fact they even called the airline 2dys b4 we left to clarify some concerns we had. Ask for Jose & Jaime, very nice staff. area is well lit and feels safe, nightlife good as newly built la vela mall 1 building away, hilton casino 2 mins walk airport 30mins, shopping on blvd porlamar 25 mins away. Rooms clean, studio may be considered small, clean daily towels a given, but we were out all day and only used room to sleep/bath so it was no biggie for us, nice view of pool from room, travelers with kids can sit in balcony and monitor kids, lifeguard on duty, aqua aerobics daily and pool volleyball, continental breakfast, dining poolside and live entertainment poolside @night. Filtered Water available daily @ hotel, Hotel offers good option on menu, prices for meals/beverages are affordable, mall closeby offers wide variety of eating choices from japanese, local spanish cuisine to mc donald 4 de kids. there there was an outdoor spanish bar in la vela mall which has dancing etc, 2mins away, cant remember the name but the owner was very warm as well, we had a great time, all 5 members of our group agreed, the entire experience was a 'WOW" it was actaually the 1st time I'd been to a casino @ hilton is a 2mins walk away so we visited, i did not participate but friends got free drinks all night, they came back to hotel @5 a.m the doors were locked, they opened for us, it was so funny, we all laughed. planning to go again, as soon as i find avaialble room on RCI, all seem booked till Oct 2011, i hope some1 cancels so i can get a room. lolz

Room Tip: if travelling with big grp, stay @ 2 bedroom accom

“crumpy place”

fair price of this place is less than 30 bucks, but they charge more than hundred bucks. Dont leave your visa at the front desk, when you check out they charge it with the official stupid exchange rate. you can get double amount of local currency on the black market for good cash (€ + $). they denied to cancel credit card opperation....worst service ever. My room smelled and was dirty. Employees are unfriendly when you mention the deficits. My tip : book any other place.....

“A 2 Star Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

Rooms are dated, what I would best describe as a typical older road side hotel you find while traveling along the Interstates in the US. Acceptable, but nothing special. The pool is nice and big, with music playing throughout the day and until about 10:00pm.

As indicated in some of the other reports, the staff is not very nice or friendly....but this seems to be the norm all around the island and not just specific to this hotel. My wife commented many times on how unfriendly everyone was. However, the second day at the hotel as we stayed friendly and smiling, tipping a little here and there for breakfast service, bar service, etc, the staff started to warm up.

When I booked the hotel, the daily rate came in around $160 with taxes...however, it was very easy to drop this price quite significantly.....here is my biggest tip pretty much to anyone traveling to the island - Use the "parallel currency exchange market"...more on this, read my tip posted under "Currency exchange" under the "Before you go section". I got 7Bsf to $1.00USD (the official rate is 4.3) when I conducted my currency exchange in Caracas, which brought the cash price per night down to about $98USD.

Overall, there is not much to do on the island....nightlife is poor. One of the positives of this hotel is its proximity to the little nightlife there is, i.e the "old Hilton" casino, the new shopping center with its couple of bars and nightclubs, as well as restaurants.

Most desirable beaches are about a 30 minute taxi ride from the hotel, like Playa El Agua. The taxi from the hotel to the beach typically averages about 80Bsf ($18USD at official exchange rate, or about $12 at the parallel exchange rate). It seemed difficult to find a taxi at the actual beaches themselves, so I would recommend setting a time with the taxi driver to pick you back up for the return trip to the hotel.

“nice outside look, not very nice inside”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 December 2009

The people at the front desk were not very friendly, the rooms reminded me of the hotel in the tropics in the 70's, the soaps were "motel soaps" , the breakfast reminded me of the breakfast in a hotel in a communist country . I don't think it's worth what I paid.

“OK hotel, very unfriendly staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2009

We've stayed there for one week and it was one week too long.
It is the most unplesant stay we've ever had!
After 3 days we've just wanted to go home.

The hotel itself is ok - moist rooms with huge cacrotches are not too sexy though.
Food was ok, but not much choice.
There is not much outside the hotel, beside the Hilton Casino.
Beach is by Hilton hotel and it's kinda trashy and grassy - didn't swimm at all that week.

The most unplesant part of stay not only at the hotel but on Isla Margarita all together is the way staff and locals just about anywhere treat you!
Disaster! You feel so unwanted and ignored wherever you go that it's just shocking!
I'll never go back to Isla Margarita even if someone will pay me.

So be prepared that your request about anything needing to be fixed in the room will be ignored. You will also be ignorred at restaurants untill you get up and catch the waiter yourself. And in the end when they bring you food you've scarred to touch it cause there is this little thing you can sense ... that there might be something wrong with it (maybe they've spit in the food?).
Night out at the Casino ended up to be a slot night, as we've been so much ignorred at any table, that didn't even get to play!

The best day was when we've rented a car and drived on our own the whole island round, almost without any contact with locals.

All in all - better save your money for some other destination then go to Isla Margarita. If you've already planned to go there, please choose the north coast - it's much more "friendly".
