After suffering from the rather poor accommodaton standards in Venezuela on our three week trip (mind you: we're not backbackers!) this posada was an ultimate relief: Clean well built rooms, no improvisation like everywhere else in this country, hot water (!), very good breakfast, wonderful views, helpful staff, even art, allways a sure sign of civilisation ;-)). Fortunately no barking dogs for us, but he who knows the common noise level of Venezuelans and their music won't bat an eyelid at barking dogs ;-)). The Garden is very nice, the balconies too, we stayed in their larger room to the front (suite), the other rooms can be a bit small but the quality is more important than the size. The staff try to speak other languages than Spanish (i.e. German, English) which is also unusual in Venezuela. We will definitely be back on our next trip!

Stayed here for 3 nights during my honeymoon and it was brilliant. The courtyard was a tranquil oasis and a great place to start the day. Breakfast was filling and easily kept us both going until lunch.

The rooms and the casa in general were clean and beautifully decorated. Having stayed in numerous hotels and hostels in south america this was above the normal standard and wouldn't look out of place in supposidly more advance european countries.

I strongly reccommend this as a place to stay when in Merida.

The Posada is close to the centre of the old town in a beautifully restored colonial house. The design has left elements of the original building intact and combined them with modern designs. Pieces of art decorate the place throughout and are for sale. The place looks unpretentious from the outside but is very tasteful on the insdide. The service can be a little slow but it is always friendly and the place has a very relaxed feel to it. The rooms are comfortable, though they could be a little cleaner. If visiting Merida and wanting to stay in the central area, this is the best option.

Casa Sol is beautifully decorated (for a posada), they have art work all over the place (for sale).

The rooms are clean, the bathroom (we stayed at room #3) was big enough, with 2 sinks outside and plenty of hot water. The bed was really comfortable and linens were great. Last but not least, the price was also good.

Despite all this positive things, I wouldn't stayed there in my next trip to Merida. Our room was very noisy, from 5 am to 10 pm we could hear the people in the hall and lobby talking, and at 4:45 am we were woke up by the suitcases being rolled down the wooden stairs that are beside the room. We needed to rest after a long trip from NY to Merida but we couldn't, We stayed there for two days and the story repeated again and again. The room offered no privacy.

I can not give my opinion about the breakfast, because they forgot to write down our reservations for three at 8:30 am, and they didn't have any food for us when we arrived !!!.
