you MUST read this before booking your holiday with Cecilia - you HAVE been WARNED! the pickup at the airport with the standard flower necklace was fine. The location was outside central Hanga Roa which we didn't care about - but here's the thing. We booked our OWN bunagalow. When we got there, we were told we'd have to share - unless we pay a surcharge. We agreed begrudgingly to pay up. It was supposed to be a self catering bungalow - but the cooker only consisted of an electric hob - there wasn't an oven to do baking in - which was very irritating. Neither was there a washing machine. Cecilia kindly said she would wash our clothes for us. Now we didnt have very many clothes - we were backpackers - but then - she gave our clothes back to us (+ a pair of boxers belonging to her husband GROSS!) and demanded the equivalent of £30!!!!!! She cited expensive water and electric bills. I was shocked. I naively thought it would be in the region of £5. Not £30. Anyway, here's where the story turned nasty. The understanding was that on the last day of our stay, she would drive us to the aiport. But, so as to avoid paying for the laundry, we hatched a plan that we would escape from the bungalow early that morning with all our belongings, head to the nearby museum for an hour or so, then get a taxi from there to the aiport. En route from the museum to the airport we joked about how funny it would be if Cecilia was actually waiting for us at the airport demanding her £30. My friends - I kid you not. She was standing to greet us as our taxi arrived at the airport, demanding her money. The scary thing was that because the airport is run by locals and the islanders know each other informally, she was easily able to tell her friend, the baggage handler, not to load our luggage onto the plane until we'd paid - he spinelessly agreed. I demanded to speak to the police. A policeman came, but spoke no English - and was filled in only with Cecilia's version of events in Spanish. We had no one to address our side of the argument to. I was eventually forced to go back to town to the nearest ATM to take out the funds and pay her before being allowed on the plane. This extortion of funds was extremely unsettling for us - particularly as we legitimately disputed the charge on the basis that it had not been agreed before the laundry was washed. Anyway, there are plently of nicer places in Hanga Roa at which you can stay - please do not give Cecilia the benefit of your custom.
