“I'm not quite sure!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 May 2012 NEW

I said that I am not sure - well it was very clean, welcoming, had a really good breakfast. The staff were lovely, room was good, bathroom nice (really good towels). So I suppose it all sounds great, however, they do need to sort that wifi out, I didn't get on it once doing our 2 night stay. The location was fine for us but it is a little way from the town and up a slight hill but then that's what makes the views so good.

All in all, we enjoyed our stay and would stay again if visiting the area again.

Hello there!

Thanks for your comments regarding the welcome, breakfast, staff, and other aspects of the stay.

The wifi is an intermittent problem because of the many original thick stone walls, and it makes it almost impossible to select a place to put a router which covers the entire property. It can also be affected by weather conditions (static electricity in the air etc), but we are always looking to try and resolve this issue. Having said that, we do get many guests who access very easily, which makes it difficult to identify specific problem areas.

We do hope to see you again before not too very long.

Kind regards

Steve James

“Quirky Victorian house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2012

The house was built by Birmingham Victorian sporting gun maker, Greener and there are lots of wonderful Victorian architectural features. The ceiling and furnishings in the sitting room are particularly beautiful. Unfortunately to make it into a practical hotel, the grand bedrooms have been divided and in the turret room that we had, you have to put up with a shower room not much bigger than a walk-in cupboard. It had a lovely view, and - OK there is a caravan site and the railway track - it is Barmouth after alll! - you look out over Cardigan Bay. This view is also what you get from the conservatory dining room - spectacular! We were put off at the outset by the over-liberal use of scented airfreshener. Some people may not like all the artificial flowers either. The breakfast was excellent and the dinners were very good with palatable and not over-priced wines. Steve, the manager was very approachable and his central european staff were neatly turned out and courteous. We had a nice chat with their experienced chef. One thing extra - it's a long walk up from the town!

Room Tip: Make sure you have a bigger bathroom and the sea view

Dear Dave,

I'm so glad you appreciated the lovely Victorian aspects of the house. As you note, in order to make the house suitable for visiting guests, the en-suites are small; when relevant we do point this out to people when they are booking. When you look at the displayed original plans, you can see that there was originally only one bathroom and two lavatories for the entire house!

The views ARE truly wonderful, and the sunsets are some of the best you will see in the country.

We try to minimise use of chemicals, but it is sometimes necessary to ensure a room smells fresh when guests arrive.

Thanks for the kind comments about me and the staff, we do try to ensure that appearance and courtesy are paramount...........and the god and plentiful food gives you the energy to walk back from the town!!

Kind regards

My fiance and I stayed here for 2 nights and we loved it. We were in a four poster room which was lovely and cosy with a gorgeous view of the ocean!

The staff there are very attentive and friendly and the food was brilliant!! There's not one thing I can fault about this place. We'll definitely be coming back!!

Hello elp 1984

Thanks for your lovely review. I can only agree that the view from the four poster room is superb, and can only enhance the ambience of this lovely room.

Our staff pride themselves on being alert to guest's needs, and we were delighted to see this was appreciated. I've passed your comments on to everyone, including the chef!

We hope it won't be too long before you return to us, possibly with a husband instead of a fiance?!!

Hello Judith,

Thanks for your great comments; we take a great pride in Ty'r Graig, and it's great to see people appreciating what we do. We firmly believe that a warm welcome sets the tone and it's clear from what you say that we succeeded in your case.

We hope it's not too long before you decided to leave your terrific Evesham countryside and come back to our gorgeous coastal scenery once again.
