We stayed at the Bryn Melyn for 3 nights at the back end of Summer 2011.
While visiting Barmouth we climbed Snowdon (where I successfully asked my girlfriend to marry me!) and walked most of the Mawddach Trail.
The Hosts…
David and Heather were excellent hosts and played a major part in helping me to orchestrate my marriage proposal, including having Champagne and Flowers waiting for us on our successful return from Snowdon.
In addition they also booked us in for a fabulous engagement meal at the nearby Bae Abermaw Restaurant (a notoriously popular and therefore difficult place to get in at.)
Nothing was too much trouble and they provided us with maps and excellent advice on how to attack Snowdon and what to see and do while in and around Barmouth.
The Place…
The Bryn Melyn is everything you would want and need for a short trip away. It is comfortable, clean and beautifully kept. The views are spectacular (especially from Room 9) and the seed put outside in the morning means you are joined for your hearty breakfast by the local Squirrels and Birds.
Plus, the free wifi allows you to keep in touch with the outside world if you so wish (the phone reception in Barmouth is average at best.)
The Location…
I would anticipate that the Bryn Melyn has some of (if not) the best views in the whole of Barmouth.
Yes, the entrance and parking is a bit tight, but it is easily manageable for almost any car (parking is also a rare commodity in Barmouth, so we were very grateful for the parking provided!)
We have already recommended the Bryn Melyn to friends of ours who are visiting Snowdonia in November and would love to stay again in the future.
How could it be improved?...
Maybe David and Heather could build an escalator to transport tired walkers from the main street up the hill to the hotel :-)
