“A Wonderful Home-from-Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We stayed at the Bryn Melyn for 3 nights at the back end of Summer 2011.

While visiting Barmouth we climbed Snowdon (where I successfully asked my girlfriend to marry me!) and walked most of the Mawddach Trail.

The Hosts…

David and Heather were excellent hosts and played a major part in helping me to orchestrate my marriage proposal, including having Champagne and Flowers waiting for us on our successful return from Snowdon.

In addition they also booked us in for a fabulous engagement meal at the nearby Bae Abermaw Restaurant (a notoriously popular and therefore difficult place to get in at.)

Nothing was too much trouble and they provided us with maps and excellent advice on how to attack Snowdon and what to see and do while in and around Barmouth.

The Place…

The Bryn Melyn is everything you would want and need for a short trip away. It is comfortable, clean and beautifully kept. The views are spectacular (especially from Room 9) and the seed put outside in the morning means you are joined for your hearty breakfast by the local Squirrels and Birds.

Plus, the free wifi allows you to keep in touch with the outside world if you so wish (the phone reception in Barmouth is average at best.)

The Location…

I would anticipate that the Bryn Melyn has some of (if not) the best views in the whole of Barmouth.

Yes, the entrance and parking is a bit tight, but it is easily manageable for almost any car (parking is also a rare commodity in Barmouth, so we were very grateful for the parking provided!)

We have already recommended the Bryn Melyn to friends of ours who are visiting Snowdonia in November and would love to stay again in the future.

How could it be improved?...

Maybe David and Heather could build an escalator to transport tired walkers from the main street up the hill to the hotel :-)

It was a real pleasure to share in this couple's happy occasion and we were only too pleased to be let into the secret so we could have the champagne and flowers ready in the room, (having received the text to confirm she said yes!).
Thank you to NottinghamKD for trusting us and apologies to his (now) fiancée for all the intrigue! It's guests like this that really make this job so enjoyable.

“Well done David and Heather.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

My Wife and I stayed at Bryn Melyn for 3 nights in the last week of September and would highly recommend it. We were lucky to be there when the weather was hot and sunny so seeing the views from our very comfortable bedroom at their best.
Breakfast was excellent and the evening meals we had on two occasions were delicious and good value.
This must be one of the best B&B's we have had the pleasure to visit in the UK and was well worth the climb up the hill.
We will be back.

“Superb B&B in the heart of Barmouth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Bryn Melyn guest house for 3 nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The hosts David and Heather were excellent. They were very polite, approachable and served up a great breakfast. They go to great lengths to ensure that all there guests were pleased and the wine stopper which they put on our bottle of wine when we were out proves this. The guest house itself is situated right up in the hillside and has wonderful views of the ocean. The room was clean and tidy and was perfectly sized for the both of us. The only small gripes we both had was the tv reception wasn't the best and the shower was very cramped. But like I said these were only small gripes and were easily ignored. I would certainly recommend the Bryn Melyn to anyone looking to stay a few nights in Barmouth.

“Thank you David and Heather”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Our second stay in this wonderful guest house was over August Bank Holiday weekend (2011). This stay was just as fantastic as the first. We absolutely love the guest house and surrounding area and David and Heather are excellent hosts. Breakfast and evening meals were delicious. Be warned - we will be back!! And a special thanks too to Di.

Room Tip: Room 7 - best in the house with marvellous views and also the biggest

“Excellent B&B in Wales”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

I stayed one week at this B&B in Wales and would highly recommend it. It is on a hill right outside the town of Barmouth with an excellent view of the bay. The rooms are great and very comfortable. Breakfast was great and the owner keeps the birds well supplied in birdseed so there is a constant show while you are eating breakfast! They also provide an option of evening meals which is wonderful on a rainy night. It is a short walk down the hill into town. There are many wonderful walking trails. Barmouth is a great place to make your home base as you explore this part of Wales. I did not have a car but was able to use trains and buses to get to Porthmadog and Caernarfon. The owners are very gracious and accommodating. I would highly recommend staying here!
