We ate here 3 years ago and fell in love with the beautiful harbour and surrounding scenery. Returned this year for 2 nights. The accommodation and food is to a very high standard and staff extremely helpful. The Iona room had wonderful views over the harbour. We will definitely be back again.

Stopped for dinner here with some friends last Saturday Night and was very pleasantly surprised by both the food and service. The Grey exterior to the building belied a warm atmosphere and friendly and efficient service. Local crab was very fresh but slightly too chilled and could have done with a more bouffant salad. Sirloin steak was nearly 2 inches thick, juicy and perfectly cooked. it was accompanied by a pretty decent pepper sauce and nicely al dente sauce. The potato wedges were surprisingly crispy and the whole thing was well seasoned. Clootie dumpling to follow had a whiff of the Christmas pudding about it but with the weather heading towards arctic (in July!) outside, it actually worked pretty well.

The island of Harris feels very deserted and secluded and then you drive into the tiny harbor of Rodel and you really feel like you've reached the edge of the World, so if it's peace you've come for, you're at the right place. It's true the building itself doesn't look much, and when you enter, although fresh and clean the decor feels a little 90's. But the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfotable and with nice views. The best thing about this hotel us Donnie the owner & chef and the amazing food which comes out of the kitchen. We are at the restaurant two nights and LOVED all the amazingly fresh seafood which is very reasonably priced! Mussels, scallops, crab claws, herring... And not only is Donnie a great chef he can also give good tips on where to go, good hikes, he grew up on the island! Recommend for at least one night.

The Rodel Hotel is an old family run establishment situated on a peaceful inlet at the southern end of Harris. The roads to the hotel are a little dicey, so I suggest you take the west coast road. The hotel is quaint and quirky, but its major attraction is the sheer isolation and tranquillity of the hotel and surrounds. The host was very amenable, the food great and the room nicely decked out.
