“A fabulous house party!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

We stayed with all our family for three days as a celebration of a special birthday and took over the whole hotel as a house party.

We had stayed here before, just with our dog, and loved it so much that we promised we would come back again with our children, grand children and extended family as well as the dog again! It was all we had hoped for and more! Tim and Patricia were the perfect hosts and made us all so welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone loved it, from 4 years old to 65!

The position is sensational, the rooms are very comfortable and the food is fabulous! The beach opposite the hotle is one of the loveliest anywhere in the world. Although Scarista is not inexpensive, it is worth every penny. All the staff were charming and so helpful. Our dietary requirements were accommodated with so little fuss and our requests were all fulfilled with such charm that the three days went by far too quickly. We cannot wait to go back!

We stayed here for two nights during a tour of the Outer Hebrides and loved it!
The ambience, hospitality, accomodation, food and drink and location were excellent.
Staying here felt like being well cared for as family friends with hosts who were happy to leave you to your own devices but who were anticipating your every need.

“very relaxing, great service”

Stayed here for 1 night as part of a 3 night trip to Harris and Lewis. Also stayed at Broadbay House and Auberge Carnish (see separate reviews). On arrival we were greeted by Patricia who made us very welcome with tea and cakes and and was also very kind to include a friend of ours who was not staying but who was with us at the time. Scarista is an old manse and as such has lovely high ceilings and large rooms - it's not a posh place, but it is really comfortable and very relaxing - and not at all pretentious. It's definately unique and really refreshing to find somewhere that is based on good service and a relaxing atmosphere, and not just about the number of rooms or volume of guests. The house is very homely and is the sort of place to kick off your wellies/walking boots and just relax. The location is great, good beach just outside the door and very peaceful. We had one of the newer suites which came with its own little sitting room with superb views over towards the beaches and the sea. The bed was enormous and the linens of excellent quality, with lovely down duvet. The bathroom was small and simple but nicely done with a great shower over the bath and Penhaligons toiletries and lots of white fluffy towels. The walls could be a little thin - however our neighbours had a small child, a dog and an early morning ferry (!)- however that did not spoil the overall enjoyment. We did not have dinner, as we dined with friends, but breakfast was excellent, espeically the freshly squeezed orange, the homemade compote and the lovely home made museli. The cooked items were really delicious and well presented- and all on vintage china. We were made to feel very welcome. We also did a boat trip with Hamish at Scenic Crusies about 25 mins drive from Scarista which is really recommended - we saw a pod of 25 dolphins and a couple of pilot whales. Overall a lovely stay and hopefully we will be back.

“A Harris Idyll!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 July 2011

We stayed here for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The accommodation was comfortable enough and the food was excellent. There is a relaxed ambience and we were very pleased that our dog was also welcome. He enjoyed Scarista Beach as much as we did and we also toured around the Isle of Lewis taking in some of the rich heritage and history that the place is steeped in. The Western Isles are a great place to get away from the pressures of life and we will return again.

“Absolutely wonderful.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

We stayed for three nights with our two children aged 14 and 10 and we all had a fabulous time. The accomodation is to a very high standard and the food is great. There are plenty of books in the sittingroom in the main house to borrow and read and loads of board games available, not that we needed to avail of any of these, because the weather was great and we were out and about for our entire stay. We will definitely be back!
