I will try to be objective about my experience at the Ferry Boat Inn. After a long day's travelling Ullapool looked enticing and the FBI certainly has a lovely setting facing across the bay. I was less than happy to find that despite having booked and paid in advance for two rooms that only one was available - the manager agreed that the booking had been made but somewhere between the booking and the sheet of paper covered with scribbled out scrawls that served as the daily record one of the rooms had been given away. Not the best way to ensure customer satisfaction. My companion stayed at the hotel in the one available room and found it adequate despite the somewhat strangely carpeted bathroom. The manager found me a room in a B&B down the road (lovely owners, glorious view - but not what I had booked) and offered us a discount on dinner at the hotel (the discount being less than the difference in prices between the hotel and the B&B.) The dining room was small and very crowded and the food poor and expensive. Breakfast the next morning was equally unappealing.
Ullapool is a beautiful town but my memories of it will always be tinged by the disappointment of my stay.
