“Prepaid booking but no room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2011

I will try to be objective about my experience at the Ferry Boat Inn. After a long day's travelling Ullapool looked enticing and the FBI certainly has a lovely setting facing across the bay. I was less than happy to find that despite having booked and paid in advance for two rooms that only one was available - the manager agreed that the booking had been made but somewhere between the booking and the sheet of paper covered with scribbled out scrawls that served as the daily record one of the rooms had been given away. Not the best way to ensure customer satisfaction. My companion stayed at the hotel in the one available room and found it adequate despite the somewhat strangely carpeted bathroom. The manager found me a room in a B&B down the road (lovely owners, glorious view - but not what I had booked) and offered us a discount on dinner at the hotel (the discount being less than the difference in prices between the hotel and the B&B.) The dining room was small and very crowded and the food poor and expensive. Breakfast the next morning was equally unappealing.
Ullapool is a beautiful town but my memories of it will always be tinged by the disappointment of my stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view, but better book somewhere els.

“Superb location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2011

Very comfortable room no 9 double with ensuite, with restricted view over loch.
The evening food and beer in the Ferry boat Inn was excellent but the breakfasts were not of the same standard. The location for exploring Ullapool and the area was very good.

“Totally unprofessional”

I booked this hotel using and paying with their online booking system, travelled 4 hours only to be told on arrival that they didn't have a room available by a very unfriendly member of staff.

“A very nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2011

This was the first time I stayed in the Ferry Boat Inn and I'll definitely be back. My room, a single room, was on the top floor. It was a decent size, had a good bed with a comfortable mattress and the ensuite bathroom was clean with a good shower. Breakfast was tasty and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Alltogether, a very pleasant stay. The only thing I'd criticise was that the curtains were a bit thin and the room too bright too early in the morning...

“Adequate for a one night stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2011

A harbourfront hotel. We had a family room which had a wee view of the ocean. If you like floral shades in all Colours you will sleep easy here. Found the carpet in the bathroom unappealing and I think I have found the worst shower in Scotland. It took 2 adults time to work it. Bunk beds for children in the room adequate but pillows quite flat. Traffic does run past the hotel. Service in restaurant only OK, but the food was excellent. We also requested gluten free food for breakfast but none in sight on the day. Not a huge amount to do in Ullapool itself. No wifi available and only 1 option we could find in Ullapool itself.
