“Beautiful location, nice rooms and a great breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2011

This is the second time I've stayed at The Shieling and feel it's a very high quality B&B/guesthouse.

The location alongside Loch Broom is stunning and the breakfasts are huge and use the highest quality ingredients (especially the black pudding!). The room was lovely and we enjoyed the complimentary sherry.

Some of the comments in the other reviews regarding the owners were a little unfair as we found the landlady very friendly and, although her husband is a little reserved, we had a nice friendly chat before we departed.

My only criticisms would be that we weren't offered a garage for our motorbike when it's advertised as being available (although we could have asked) and the bathroom, although spotlessly clean and perfectly functional, would benefit from some modernisation - a carpetted floor and pink suite is very 1980's.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front with a loch view

“Comfortable. Good breakfast.”

Our room at The Sheiling B&B was warm, clean and comfortable if somewhat outdated with outstanding views. There are plenty of towels and shower gel was provided. Breakfast was generous; I had smoked haddock and a poached egg and my husband had porridge followed by smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The fish is locally sourced from the Ullapool Smokery which is excellent. Our experience at The Sheiling would have been enhanced had the owner smiled now and again and appeared less miserable.

“Very friendly; efficiently run; good breakfasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2010

Spent a couple of nights here with teenage son; very spacious room, useful residents lounge with good range of local books and information. Breakfasts were good, great smoked haddock. Owners very friendly. Only minor gripe - creaking floors if you are in a ground floor room and have guests returning late above you.

“What more could we ask for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

My partner, self and couple of friends (all motorcyclists) had the pleasure of staying at this immaculately clean guest house in May 2010 and thoroghly enjoyed it.

Nothing was too much trouble. The couple running the establishment were very accomodating, sherry on arrival, they garaged our motorcycles. Switched on the sauna ready for our return after long days on the bikes and drying room facilities at no extra charge. We could even have washed our bikes had we needed to. Fantastic breakfasts with an extensive choice. Lovely spacious lounge overlooking the loch with helpfull information, maps and books covering the area.

We would definately recommend The Sheiling to others and hope to return soon.

“Beautiful Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 June 2010

This B&B is located on the shore of Loch Broom and you can reach the centre of Ullapool along the shoreline from The Sheilings back garden. We only found the midges to be a problem!

Our rooms were on the top floor. One room had a shower and the other a bath tub with hand shower attachment. We thought the bathrooms rather dated and for anyone with a mobility problem the room with the bath/hand shower could have been challenging.

The rooms were spacious enough. The television was outdated and reception extremely poor. In fact, the rooms were 1980's ish, and in our opinion require a re-furb. However, the accommodation was very clean.

The breakfasts were substantial and taken in a dining room with superb views over the Loch. At this establishment you order your breakfast the night before. There was also a guest lounge, very spacious, again with great views across the Loch.

There is ample off road parking. We noticed there was a sauna which could be hired for an extra charge.
