I know that's a bit like describing a trip to Moscow and starting with "the metro has nice lamps", but there you have it.
The owner is welcoming and polite. The rooms and general interior are that wonderful polychromatic mix that says 1980's Highlands meets Dame Edna. The garden ornaments are the final icing on the cake.
That said, the bedroom was comfortable and I had a good night's rest until the comedian in the adjacent room started whistling and banging doors at about 6am. So beware, the walls are thin.
The breakfast was served by charming young staff who were helpful and attentive. The food was well cooked and well presented. The crockery was wonderfully retro too.
I wonder whether some of the criticisms of this B & B are fair. Ullapool has a wonderful old world charm and if anyone wants a boutique hotel, then stay urban.
It does represent value for money. You just have to accept that there is a spectrum of interior design options up here that defy description.
