“Top B&B - nice one Sam & Claire”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2008

What a great place! Nicely located for mountain bikers to explore the 7 Stanes trails. Found the B&B through The Brake Pad website, they also have a bike shop at Kirroughtree trail.

Cycled the black graded trail at Kirroughtree so we were totally pooped when we arrived. Good chippy a stones thown away from the front door - essential for carb loading the night before a big ride!!

Sam & Claire are very friendly and provide a bike lock up for guests.

Claire cooked a brilliant breakfast in the morning, bacon, sausage, egg, black pudding, haggis, beans, mushies and stacks of toast. Helen has fruit to be healthy, I think she was secretly gutted when she saw mine arrive.

If you stay at the B&B you get a discounted rate on MTB hire at Kirroughtree, this is a nice touch.

Bed was nice and firm, good after a 31km cycle when you're aching all over!

“Great spot with excellent hosts - MTB's encouraged!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2007

We were welcome from the moment we walked through the door to the moment we departed.
The house was clean and tidy, everything worked, all furniture was intact, lots of towels, we did not feel like we were intruding in someone's home and the breakfasts were tremendous.
There is great love in this establishment for the mountainbike fraternity and we 5 bikers enjoyed the bike wash, drying room and a great selection of MTB magazines to thumb through.
I would have no hesitation in going back or recommending Sam & Claire to anyone, whether biker or not.
The location in the town made dinner very easy too. We had excellent food in the Douglas Arms hotel which to be honest looks a bit dowdy and in need of renovation. All I will say is not to be put off by appearances- we had excellent Lamb as well as Haggis-stuffed Chicken, really well cooked veg and friendly service
This will not be my final visit to castle Douglas!

“a great B & B for mountain bikers riding the 7 Stanes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2007

For anyone looking for somewhere to stay when riding the 7 Stanes, we've just come back from a stay at The Break Pad in Castle Douglas. We stayed there so we could ride Drumlanrig and Kirroughtree. Claire and Sam started the B&B in April this year and have done a fantastic job. Super friendly hostesses, comfy rooms, great breakfasts (fruit salad, vegetarian haggis, tattie scones, best beans on toast in Scotland), 30 mins from Kirroughtree, 20 mins from Drumlanrig and about 15 mins from Dalbeattie and Mabie, bike storage, bike magazines and 7 stanes maps in the breakfast room, a drying room for clothes you want to wear the next day..

They also run the bike hire & shop at Kirroughtree, so they are ideally positioned to help travellers from abroad who do not wish to bring their own bikes.
