Great reception and help from the 2 gals on duty, great value and tasty food, freindly but respectful service from those two charming gals in the restaurant. Those two gals could teach a course on diner's care. well done ladys, your service exceeded the service we got the next night, at twice the price,in country house not far from you . Magic

From the moment we arrived till time to leave,we were given fisrt class service by totally attentive professional staff. Menu choice is vast/ very reasonabley priced but above all EXCELLENT QUALITY !! all in all a wonderful relaxing time was enjoyed by my wife & myself- Thank you - we will be back !!!!!!!!!!

We were trapped by a heavy shower and found ourselves on the street outside the Douglas Arms. Being nearly lunchtime we went in after walking into an empty bar with no staff we were seated in the dining room after being unsure of where we should go and looked forward to a nice bar snack.

We have a six year old and a four year old and when the meal came they were presented with and adult size sandwich supposec to be a childrens portion, which explained the price and when our meals arrived the quantity was enormous, I would have had no objection if it had had quality but I am afraid it did not.

Our over riding memory is that the staff were too busy talking to each other and their friends and not thinking about their customers. We stayed in Castle Douglas for two weeks and only called once, which is a shame as I had had nice times there in the past.
A liitle attention to the customers, less food but better cooked would be my suggestion.

I was advised by a friend to check out the Douglas Arms Hotel if i ever got the chance. We had a trip to the area in May and i decided to do just that.
What a lovely time we had. The staff were attentive and courteous and i got the feeling that nothing would have been too much trouble. The quality of the food and drink was superb and again the service was first class.
I'm a fairly seasoned traveller and dare i say it a well seasoned foodie!! While i would describe the atmosphere and feel of the hotel as more traditional than anything else i felt it was the atmosphere and staff that made our stay very special, right down to the extra biscuits placed in our room after we passed comment on how nice they were and were sourced from a bakery / supplier in the town.
We were given a room with four poster bed and spa bath at no extra cost when it was found that i ad booked a twin room by mistake so top marks to Mr Mclaren for the free upgrade.
We will be back in Castle Douglas soon and will definitely be staying at The Douglas Arms again !!
