“Lovely little hotel”

Was down in this lovely part of Scotland on business and booked this hotel on the strength of Trip Advisor reviews - and i'm glad i did so.

Staff were spot on, from check in to check out. Rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with good tourist info if needed and freeview TV.

My colleague and i ate in the restaurant at night and the food was excellent - i recommend the chef's pate and the delicous rob roy dessert - all i can say is try it for yourself!

with free onsite parking and a lively public bar, you should definately make this your place of stay if you visit Castle Douglas.

“VERY GOOD”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

Castle Douglas has a certain old fashioned charm, just like the Kings Arms Hotel.

The well-managed King's Arms has had two stars from the RAC but we will give it 4 because of its friendliness and because it seems like the sort of place that would have been loved by John Buchan, author of Huntingtower and Thirty Nine Steps.

The Kings Arms is probably the best in town.

When Prince Charles came to Castle Douglas, it was to the King's Arms that he came.

The rooms in the King's Arms are what you would expect of a comfortable RAC two star hotel.

The restaurant is good but not AA rosette standard.

Service is efficient and friendly.

The King's Arms is popular with locals, partly because, unlike some of its rivals, it has been run by the same family for many years.

The Kings Arms is popular with golfers and cyclists.

Castle Douglas, and the King's Arms, have the potential to be as brilliant as anything in Brittany or Normandy in France.

The 'food town' of Castle Douglas should have its own mayor, and its hotels and restaurants should try to earn Michelin stars.

Castle Douglas is in the most beautiful part of the UK and makes a good centre for visits to places such as Kirkcudbright and Rockcliffe.

“We'll come back”

Just returned from a 3 night golf break, staying at the Kings Arms. If you are looking for a good hotel that provides decent evening meals, a good breakfast selection and has an owner who cares- try this hotel. Been going to Castle Douglas for the golf for around 10 years and make a point of staying here. David is very helpful and can offer good advice about which courses to play. Staff in the restaurant and behind the bar are excellent and friendly. David can also offer advice about other activities in the area from mountain biking to general sightseeing.
As the title suggests - I will be back next year.

David at the Kings Arms will suggest and book your golf for your trip. 3 fantastic courses played, the hotel is a superb base, the food is great, 14 golfers over 4 nights and not a single complaint about the rooms, food or the golf. The staff at the hotel cant do enough for you, very helpful and the locals are so friendly.. We will be back again in 2012 for another stay.

“Friendly staff, lovely meals, perfect base for mountain biking the 7stains”

Stayed here for 4 nights with a friend, used the hotel as a base to ride the 7staines mountain bike trails.

The hotel is perfect , felt like we were staying at my local ,Each day we were treated to a full choice at breakfast, the haggis was so good.

After a hard days biking it was great to come back to a friendly warm atmosphere and great home made cooking severed in the bar or restaurant.

The rooms are warm, spacious and clean.
The en suite bathroom was replenished with towels and toiletries daily and the beds were always remade whilst we were out.

The hotel is located in a quite area of Castle Douglas so we had a good nights sleep without any disturbance.

We've stayed in many hotels in the UK, this is the first hotel that i have written a review for . i will be staying again and i would recommend it for its location, price and a perfect place to stay .
