“A Gem in the Heart of the Borders”

This is the second time I have stayed with a group of friends on a shooting weekend. The hotel is excellent for making your stay a relaxing experience. Nothing was too much trouble, from storing our equipment, to arranging packed lunches and at the same time accomodating the special dietery needs of a friend. The entire hotel is traditional with roaring open fires and spaces to just relax. Were a very demanding bunch and the staff and chef catered for our every need with enthusiasm and a smile.A credit to the the owners.

Room Tip: Room 7 overlooks the courtyard entrance. The opposite side of the hotel over looks the river Tweed

we stayed recently and cant wait to come back and bring the dog, well behaved, next time .The atmosphere was lovely, calm and welcoming and despite the decorating going on, it didnt affect my first visit to Ednam House Hotel as all staff lovely and very professional but also relaxed.Lovely view in our smart room over the Tweed made it a very unique experience.Great lounges with fires too and many quirky antiques. Lovely lunch too.Thankyou for quality assurance, Ting Terrier.

“Doesn't quite live up to the billing - but close !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Beautifully located right on the iconic River Tweed , an interesting house in a stramash (look it up ! ) Of styles from Jacobean French through Scottish baronial to Deco , on the edge of a clattering cobbled square. Unusual. Service is the product of fastidious management and shines throughout. Food quality is as you would expect from its location on the finest Salmon river in the Borders running through prime beef and lamb country to the sea only a few miles away. Delivery , however , doesn't quite reach the resultant lofty expectations. Perhaps a bit on the "stuffy" side overall - best behaviour please ! - but that's a refreshing change these days ! You'll enjoy it.

Dear Websiteless
We are delighted you enjoyed your visit to Ednam House and Kelso and would like to thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. We have always believed in using as much local produce as possible, which has never been a difficult decision to make as Kelso is, as you point out, surrounded by some of the finest agricultural land in Scotland.
We look forward to welcoming you again in the near future.
Kind Regards
Ralph and Anne

“A wonderful experience but not for the ultra modernist!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We decided to have a one night break I'm the Borders and we were able to book a double room at short notice. Since the seventies I have known the Ednam House as a wonderfully atmospheric sporting hotel although I have never managed a night stay. Imagine my surprise when I found the hotel to be just like it was all those years ago with an old fashioned country feel....fishing rods propped up I'm hallway spaniels wandering the corridor and cozy lounges where you almost imagine Holmes and Watson discussing another mystery. Long may the hot fight off modern sanitised renovations.....an absolute national treasure with such a welcome from really friendly staff.

Dear Onlyfellow
Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are so glad you enjoyed your recent stay at Ednam House and will share your kind comments with the whole team.
You are absolutely right – in many ways the feel of Ednam House has not changed. As the hotel has been owned and managed by our family for the past 85 years, whilst each generation has carried out repairs and refurbishment, the essential character and atmosphere the hotel has remained constant - and as we continue to evolve, we strive to retain our unique character, enjoyed by so many.
Kind regards
Ralph and Anne

“A Place for Lunch in Kelso”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We have been here three time for lunch and it is still a popular location. Lunches are served in the bar area with a relaxed rustic charm and views out over the river. The food is fairly simple but a good selection and freshly cooked; they also do a "half portion" for about 20% less when you are not so hungry. It can get busy for lunch, but the service is quite prompt and friendly.

Room Tip: Did not sleep here.
