We broke our B&B tradition for a Groupon deal at the Ballachulish Hotel, and it was good for the price paid. We had requested a loch view room in the old building, and room 204 was spacious, acceptably clean and comfortable (especially the bed), with a bottle of wine waiting for us. We tolerated the faulty toilet flush. The views out were gorgeous with clear blue skies and snow-capped mountains. Nice public areas, though the open-fired library is let down by the old and dirty-looking couches. Dinner, and service, was good on the whole, though the beef olives would have been sent back, if full price, for being tough and inedible. Breakfast reminded us why we prefer B&Bs. Perfectly acceptable selection of cereals, fruits, juices etc, but the cooked items were buffet-style, and cold and past their best. My wife had intended using the nearby spa but chose to accompany me on the complimentary round of golf at the delightful course next door as the weather was so perfect. Overall, a memorable 24 hours, but we wouldn't be tempted back at full price.
