“A good experience - for the money.”

We broke our B&B tradition for a Groupon deal at the Ballachulish Hotel, and it was good for the price paid. We had requested a loch view room in the old building, and room 204 was spacious, acceptably clean and comfortable (especially the bed), with a bottle of wine waiting for us. We tolerated the faulty toilet flush. The views out were gorgeous with clear blue skies and snow-capped mountains. Nice public areas, though the open-fired library is let down by the old and dirty-looking couches. Dinner, and service, was good on the whole, though the beef olives would have been sent back, if full price, for being tough and inedible. Breakfast reminded us why we prefer B&Bs. Perfectly acceptable selection of cereals, fruits, juices etc, but the cooked items were buffet-style, and cold and past their best. My wife had intended using the nearby spa but chose to accompany me on the complimentary round of golf at the delightful course next door as the weather was so perfect. Overall, a memorable 24 hours, but we wouldn't be tempted back at full price.

“soaked in scotland and hungry”

went this hotel with local coach company september 2011, will never go again, am slilghtly disabled no one told us about all the steps up to the hotel and five flights of stairs to our room we promptly complained and were moved to a room on the lst floor still two flilghts of stairs. Food was awful more suitable for small children, it was all placed on our plates, no dishes to help yourself to vegetables, same veg for four nights, carrots and new potato. Drinks were very expensive £2.for small bottle of mineral water, and had to w ait three quarterss of an hour to be served our meal, cannot recommend at all as well as this it rained every day and we were soaked to the skin most days

Room Tip: ask for a lower floor room

“Stunning views!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Stayed in Ballachulish for 1 night in January. On arriving at hotel was welcomed by friendly staff and was given key to our room, not a very good start -room was very small there had been rain coming in and walls were covered in rain marks also curtain pellmets hanging off, also the two chairs that were in room both were filthy! return to reception and asked to be moved to another room which was not questioned by receptionist, was given another room key and told to have a look and see if that was better, second room was bit better. The hotel has a lovely Restaurant food and service was very good. Nice bar and warm and comfortable large rooms for you to sit and enjoy a drink. The hotel is letting its self down by standard of rooms, because of this i would not return......

“Great Setting but a little disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The Ballachulish Hotel has a wonderful setting overlooking the loch Linnhe. The Bulas Restaurant has a modern feel but we found it a little chilly - there was one real fire and a "convector" type heater.

The food and service were good, but not great. A little pricey compared with other local eateries.

The library has a wonderful charm with amazing high ceilings and lots of comfy chairs. Again no real fire lit (in the middle of winter) just a gas/real flame one!!
