“A Beautiful Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

After being recommended by a member of family we decided to experience it for ourselves. It was a beautiful little cottage inside and out, very cosy! Nancy was very accomodating and cooked us lovely breakfasts with a FANTASTIC selection of home made jams! We would definitely book to stay again, and being 20 minues from Bath it was the perfect location. The stars that filled the sky at night were breath taking. Thank you for a lovely time. x x x

Room Tip: Only one room avaliable, but it's beautiful!

“Home away from home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We stayed at the Thatch cottage last year but I'm looking forward to spending another few days there and seeing Nancy and Paul again next year. We met up with a friend at short notice and Nancy organised the cottage to make it warm and welcoming for all three of us. The cottage has off street parking, a beautiful garden and exceptional accommodation that transports you back a few centuries (but with all the mod cons to make your stay just perfect). Comfortable bed, spotlessly clean and Nancy's breakfasts are truly wonderful. You can either walk (or it's a very short drive) into Lacock to see the Lacock Abbey (otherwise known as "Hogwarts School"), have lunch or dinner at the local pub - (The George) - and spend a bit of time browsing the photographs showing all the TV shows filmed there including "Cranford" and other historical dramas. It's a short drive/train trip to Bath, a wonderfully historic town. If Nancy and Paul see this, Stuart and I wish them a very happy and safe Christmas, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Room Tip: Make sure to visit Lacock Abbey and treat yourself to an hour or two on the heated rooftop spa-pool...

“Highly recommended”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 December 2011

We have just returned from our second visit to Thatch Cottage. Nancy and Paul are very friendly. Nancy cooks a great breakfast and we like the fact that a) we are the only guests and b) the cottage has a sitting room and bedroom upstairs. Excellent value for money. We visited Bath`s Christmas market on Nancy`s recommendation and were not disappointed. Everything is relaxed and informal as it should be. Perfect!

“The Shire and Harry Potter with a gracious host = perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

We stayed here on July 12, 2011. Lacock Village is the definition of history and charm rolled into one. Add the Harry Potter film scenes for the fans in your family and this village will be on your list of really easy places to visit in England. (I must add that the cottage is not set up for young children though). The town is really small (an afternoon is more than enough time), and rather than stay in one of the hotels I opted for this cottage a mile out, although it feels like forever away because it is so firmly in farm country. There is just nothing like being able to stay in a thatched roof cottage, but our host, Nancy Robertson, takes a generally appealing idea and turns it into a great stay for her guests. You have a completely distinct two story structure to yourself with its own entrance. The décor is perfect; after leaving the HP sites in Lacock I felt like we were staying in the Shire (well I guess technically we were). Breakfast was excellent in Nancy’s kitchen, which looks like it could be in architectural digest for its English countryside design. In the winter Nancy offers an evening meal which she also did for us as a favor (it was my birthday). It was likewise excellent. The back yard garden is lovely. I sat out and read while my teenager kicked a soccer ball. The cottage is well maintained and clean. The bed (a queen bed by American standards, although the website says it is a double) is very comfortable. The shower has plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Altogether a great place to stay.
