“Getting away from it all”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2010

Have just returned from a week at Dry Island and we were sorry to leave as it was a great experience. We were looking for something to do for a week in October and took a punt of this place based on the website and the comments on this website. As we were driving from Southampton we were kind of hoping it was like the website and we weren't disappointed.

The setting is almost unbelievable and appears to be about as far removed (literally and figuratively) from the South of England as one can get and I mean this in a good way. The welcome was warm and helpful without being overbearing especially as we were staying in the self catering apartment which is part of the main house. It might sound odd, but there is very little noise from the main house even though it is a wall away and Ian and Jess always made themselves available to help if required.

In terms of activities, we were lucky with the weather in that for half the week there was not a cloud in the sky and very little wind. We took our inflatable kayak with us and were able to launch off the quay in front the house and were able to go and see the resident seals before breakfast. We also went snorkelling as the visibility is 6-8 metres at least and saw a lot of marine life but be warned that if you're going to do it, the water is cold.

There are some great walks in the area and the scenery is stunning. Some interesting things to are: Ian's shellfish safari, visit the Loch Ewe distillery and have a drink in the Badacro Inn to name but a few.

Finally here are a few things which others may find useful: if you have limited mobility, this may not be the place for you as there a number of steep and/ or slippery steps/ walkways to get there. To avoid carrying heavy bags, Ian will come and collect them by boat (defo worth it). The apartment in the main house has a good wifi connection, the cabin does not. There is good mobile phone reception all around the area but not in the main apartment due to the thickness of the walls. The last 2 may not be that important but thought I'd mention them.

All in all would thoroughly recommend it and we're looking forward to going back next year!

“Been there in winter, going back in summer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2010

Amazing scenery, great walking, collecting our own mussels on Gairloch beach, eating Ian's wonderful langoustines.....we wanted a quiet retreat for Christmas and we got it. For a few days we were the sole ccupants of the island in Creel Cabin as Ian and Jess were away. The location could not be better. The cabin is comfortable - but don't expect luxury - it is superb value for money at all times of year. The coastline offers many beautiful places to visit - we especially liked Gruinard Bay. At Christmas we felt we missed out on wildlife, fishing and walking because of winter weather and short days, so we're going back in June 2010. Watch this space for a summer review.

“beautiful , romantic place to just chill out”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2009

lovely romantic place to capture the outdoor pleasures. Wildlife ,amazing scenery and the fresh air not to be missed. Seals were the highlight playing in the bay. Local pub with good beer and wine a short 15 min walk along shore line. Gairloch 10 min drive with lovely short distance walks. Old Inn at Gairloch serves fantastic sea food and a very friendly place. Island amazingly quiet with the tidal walkway ( floating bridge ) giving another element to the seclusion. Ideal area to tour this area which will prove to be very rewarding to every one.

“Location, location, location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2009

From the beginning when we saw our cottage and its location in real life, we knew it matched up to the website. We were very happy for the next 7 days, making this our base and doing great walks and drives around the area. The hosts Ian and Jess are kind and considerate - it was quiet, peaceful and beautiful - we hadn't felt so relaxed in ages. Loved the Badachro Inn which was 5 mins away and great for wi fi contact.

“Fantastic”

We stayed here on our honeymoon - very exciting getting to the island over the pontoon. more exciting coming back in the dark, after a few pints at the inn, but still good fun! Very welcoming, and sooo peaceful. Lovely to wake up in the monring and look out of the window across the bay. Badachro inn does fantastic food, and there is another restaurant just across from the b&b, too. The owners can book you in if you ask. can't recommend it highly enough.
