“Bad location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

If you don't have your own car, don't stay here. It is on top of a big hill and has no restaurant. The Old Inn, a sister location is at the bottom of the hill and has a good restaurant. The staff seemed uninterested and were only available by phone much of the time. The rooms were average and small. Not a bad night but there are better choices.

“Great place”

I stayed here with 5 friends and we had a great time walking in the hills and drinking and eating in the Old Inn down the road.
The hotel is not luxurious but is clean and comfortable, serves a nice buffet breakfast and I thought it was great value for money. If you like walking in the hills the location is excellent as long as you have a car to drive around the area.
There isnt much in Gairloch itself but the beautiful remoteness is why I like places like this.
The hotel itself doesnt serve evening meals but they will do a packed lunch for you for a fiver and book you a table for evening meals at the Old Inn down the road, which is great. The bar there is good too with some decent local ales on tap.
If you fancy a change for dinner, the Badachro Inn was also really good and has a great view from its terrace out the back.
The Honesty Bar back at the lodge for if you fancy a nightcap when the Old Inn closes is a nice touch.

I can recommend the lodge to anyone looking for a relaxing break with the emphasis on the outdoors and good food and drink. If you are looking for a luxury hotel type experience with room service/doormen etc look elsewhere.

Room Tip: There are 3 newly furnished twin rooms in an annexe out the back.

“very happy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

I rode 500 miles in the rain on my motorcycle and was ready for a rest.

I received a warm welcome at reception and was shown to my room.

the heating had been turned on for me and the room was warm and spotlessley clean. i was offered a drying room for my motorcycle kit and taken on a tour of the hotel, including the honesty bar..( help yourself and sign your room number on the board).... a nice touch.
Breakfast was at 8 so I went down promptly and had a great hot breakfast which was buffet style so i could leave out stuff i dont like and double up on the goodies.

the Lithuanian couple who cooked it were really nice friendly people too.

while at the hotel i noticed i had foolishly lost my wallet with my credit cards, driving licence and a lot of cash. Alistair the manager was very helpfull and searched the internet to locate the garage i had used on the way up to see if i had left it there.( i hadnt) and then he phoned my wife at home and got her debit card details to pay the hotel bill and also give me cash to continue my journey.

6 days later he phoned to say my wallet had been found and the contents were intact !
He even posted it back to me.
Fantastic service . I recommend this hotel to any Bikers who are on the west coast route
I will definately be going back

“Would go again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

arrived back from the Gairloch hotel on 17/09/2011 After an exhausting 14 hour coach drive our hotel was a welcome site .
As others have mentioned the rooms are basis somewhat tatty in appearance and do require upgrading .
Food @ hospitality good allways a choice mostly good quality but a lot of processed meats used .
Staff are superb especially my little friendly barman & not to forget :THE SLAVE : SHE KNOWS WHO SHE IS . you could not fault the attention these young people gave to all guests
The area is beatiful & John the driver a font of knowlage about his chosen area . He did grate on some people you know . overall i will be going back to try again in the future .

Room Tip: Go for the upgrade as most rooms quite small

“Value for money - does what it says on the tin! Would return.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

We booked a cheap break to visit an area of Scotland that we had not been to before. The hotel was used by coach trips but we drove as there is so much to see and didn't want to be limited to specific tours. THe hotel staff was extremely welcoming, helpful and happy! In particular the reception manager was very welcoming and more than helpful when offering us suggestions to days out and routes to take. He always had a smile and a friendly comment to pass. The rooms were adequate however the food was a little bland. Plentiful but a little more care and attention to detail and it could have been very good. The entertainment was okay - we had free drinks package - 7.30pm - 10.30pm which was excellent value, great choice and the bar staff was super (never had to ait to be served and a ready smile always provided!)
ON THE WHOLE THE HOTEL DELIVERED EXACTLY WHAT WE EXPECTED FOR THE PRICE WE PAID - WOULD RETURN!
