“Okay hotel average hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

To start the hotel is in a very good location in Nailsworth, has good parking and very helpful staff. However, there was nothing special and no wow moments staying here.

We stayed in a room that overlooked the car park, the room was fairly comfortable but far too hot. There was a small shower room but this was very compact. As we were staying in an old room there were some nice features - including a sloping floor.

The breakfast is downstairs in the main building, where there were no windows and it was very dark. The breakfast was distinctly average.

“Very Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

Like most business users, you look for key things, location, cost, comfort and food, so it's nice to say that this is one hotel where you can relax, eat decent food and not pay over the odds.

I stayed in the main hotel building which is simply beautiful, the rooms are tastefully decorated (The Bear at Rodborough take note) with a luxurious bed. Yes there was the odd cobweb which I am sure the hotel inspector would quibble over, but all told very clean and very nice.

The restaurant service and attention to detail was spot on, decent portions, nice selection and well presented.

This is a well appointed hotel, with friendly helpful staff and ideally located.

I will be coming back.

“One of the best gastro pub/restaurants in the Stroud valleys”

I eat here quite regularly as it is very close to where my mother lives. In my opinion it is one of the better medium priced restaurants in the Stroud valleys in a very nice setting. There is a good choice of food and caters for both traditional and contemporary tastes. Portions are a good size and you really must try Shirley's Steak and Kidney Pudding - like no other! Steaks are always cooked just right too. I have no experience of the hotel.

“Wasted potential”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

The location and building exteriors are beautiful, but that is where the joy ends with this hotel. The rooms in the garden house are like a cheap hostel and do not reflect the historic property. We stayed in a beautiful building dating from 1698 but the room was poorly decorated with naff 1980s style flower pics on the walls, a basic bathroom and an odd orangey brown paint on the walls, a small spend on paint and decor that reflects the property would make a huge difference to the quality of the rooms. The breakfast is really poor and the staff were indifferent at best. There are a lot of stairs and no porter so beware if you have trouble with movement. Overall I felt that this hotel needs to be overhauled and some fresh thinking and customer focus could produce real improvements without too much need to invest a lot of money. There are much better places to stay in that beautiful part of the UK.
