“A very pleasant stay......”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

We stayed at the Kersbrook in late Sept in a good sized double room on the ground floor . The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very good but the room was a little tired in decoration. However this did not detract from a great stay. The off street parking was a bonus as parking was limited around town. The hotel is ideally located for walking to the shops and restaurants but the up hill hike back to the hotel after dinner is not for the faint hearted. Overall we really enjoyed Lyme Regis.

Room Tip: Ask for ground floor, after the walk back you do not want to then be climbing stairs.

“Avoid at all costs - The Kersbrook Katastrophe!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2011

Having spent a lifetime staying at hotels from five star rated ones to no stars, this one wins the award for the worst I have ever visited in my life.
The hotel itself is shabby and tired, but that is not the main issue. The owner is Basil Fawlty reincarnated but without the tact or the charm! We were staying with a party of 15, pre-booked, as we were dining at Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage at nearby Park Farm.
We arrived back at The Kersbrook at about midnight in good spirits after a fabulous evening. On entering our bedroom, I realised that the bed was, well, not damp, but absolutely sodden – through the sheets, duvet and mattress, it was like someone had thrown a bucket of water over it. After some ten minutes of ringing the night bell, the owner (who lives on site) decided to make an appearance.
On being informed of the problem he churlishly suggested that we moved (remember sodden) bed out of the way of the by now obviously leaking ceiling. When being pointed out the sheer nonsence and impracticality of this he said that the other option was that my partner and I should stay up all night!! He then suggested, to our party of 15, that we should ALL leave! (it was by now 1.30am)
At no point did he apologise. Fortunately I have a sister who lives nearby and after a frantic phone call she made a mercy dash to come and rescue us.
I could, and have, ranted and ranted but the real question is:
Why would a man like this even CONSIDER being in the hospitality industry?
May his Kersbrook Kanoe sink without trace.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel.

“Disgust”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

Nov 2011, I was with a group of friends to celerbrate a 40th Birthday, we were all looking forward to a night away. When we arrived there was problems with the parking as there was very limited space and we just had to block ourselves in.Then we got into the hotel which wasnt in the best of repair and we were told we were in a twin room we asked if we could have a double room as for £100 I didnt think this was a big request, I was rudely spoken to and told that it wasnt £100 as it was £97 and the VAT man took £7 of this I struggled to see how this was my problem!!!! We then discovered there was no shower and stains on the headboards OH GREAT!! So we decided to get ourselves together and to have a great night out with our friends. We returned after our night, and one couple went to there room to discover the ceiling was leaking all over the bed, they called and called for attention finally the owner appeared and took a look,he said that he would fix the leak which he did then proceeded to say they would have to just move the bed, when they said the bed was wet and that this wasnt satisfactory he responded and said they would just have to stay up all night then!! He was rude and defensive there was an argument and finally they decided to leave and go to stay with some family they had based locally at 1.30am in the morning! We had to stay as being so late and with so many of us we had no choice. I strongly advise that no one stay at this hotel/B&B as its certainly not worth £97 a night it is out dated lacks facilities and the management are very unprofessional considering he told us that he had been running the Hotel for longer than we had been alive!!

“Halfway House”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

We frequently travel from Sussex to Cornwall. As the trip is a long one and we are getting older we have been looking for B + B accomodation somewhere on route for one night to break the journey. We have found our 'Halfway House' at the Kersbrook. Every where in the hotel was clean and comfortable and the proprieters and staff welcoming and helpful. They provided us with a map and details of good places to eat. On a very rainy evening such as we experienced the bar area was cosy and peaceful. The breakfast next morning was excellent with a well cooked choice available. Will we stay there again? Most certainly!
Thank you Kersbrook
