Having spent a lifetime staying at hotels from five star rated ones to no stars, this one wins the award for the worst I have ever visited in my life.
The hotel itself is shabby and tired, but that is not the main issue. The owner is Basil Fawlty reincarnated but without the tact or the charm! We were staying with a party of 15, pre-booked, as we were dining at Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage at nearby Park Farm.
We arrived back at The Kersbrook at about midnight in good spirits after a fabulous evening. On entering our bedroom, I realised that the bed was, well, not damp, but absolutely sodden – through the sheets, duvet and mattress, it was like someone had thrown a bucket of water over it. After some ten minutes of ringing the night bell, the owner (who lives on site) decided to make an appearance.
On being informed of the problem he churlishly suggested that we moved (remember sodden) bed out of the way of the by now obviously leaking ceiling. When being pointed out the sheer nonsence and impracticality of this he said that the other option was that my partner and I should stay up all night!! He then suggested, to our party of 15, that we should ALL leave! (it was by now 1.30am)
At no point did he apologise. Fortunately I have a sister who lives nearby and after a frantic phone call she made a mercy dash to come and rescue us.
I could, and have, ranted and ranted but the real question is:
Why would a man like this even CONSIDER being in the hospitality industry?
May his Kersbrook Kanoe sink without trace.
Room Tip: Go to another hotel.
