“Evening meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Upon reaching the venue via a 2 mile long driveway, it was exactly what the description on the webpage said - peaceful, tranquil, simply divine. My husband, mother in law and myself went for a pre-Christmas meal. The evening started in the drawing room infront of a blazing fire, piped music for the time of year gently playing in the background - so relaxing. A very attentive waiter attended to our every need. The dining room was very classy indeed, again a log fire burning, and with candles glowing, created a warming atmosphere. Even the house cat sat on my mother in law's lap throughout the meal. The meal itself was well worth the wait as it is cooked to order. Lovely food, well presented. Pity it was dark, so we will be going back in the spring when we can see what the whole area is like. Thank you.

“A Magical Place”

Hazelwood House is a magical place. The ride there is filled with stunning views you'll not soon forget. The accommodations are special, warm and friendly. The food is glorious. And the most valuable part of your experience at Hazelwood will unfold as you meet the gals who own the guest house. We were lucky enough to have dinner with the owners and it became clear that all who arrive at Hazelwood were meant to be there for reasons far beyond vacation or rest. It's a spiritual retreat for the soul...

“Absolutely Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

My wife and I have just spent two nights at Hazelwood. From the initial warm, enthusiastic and genuine greeting through to the very long chat about our escapades on departure it is fair to say that this is one of the nicest places we have stayed at.
The room which gave a magnificent view across the valley was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was a tad on the small side but how much time do you need to spend in it?
The breakfast was freshly prepared and more than adequate in amount and choice. It was good to note that a lot of the produce is sourced locally. The evening meal was very well presented and tasted superb. This together with the service made for a relaxing and enjoyable break.
We were given suggestions of places to visit and advised of the best route to take. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff. You will not get service like this at any one of the bigger more sanitised hotels.
We cannot recommend a visit to Hazelwood more strongly but do ensure that you get a room on the first floor with a valley view.
A big thank you to all of the staff.

Room Tip: First floor valley view room is a must.

“A hidden gem...can't wait to come back!”

Hazelwood House is tucked away in a wooded valley in Devon, and it is well worth negotiating the narrow, winding lanes to get there! It really is a haven of peace and tranquility and the welcome we received could not have been warmer. The hotel has the feel of an old family home and you do feel as though you are staying with friends because the atmosphere is very relaxed and nothing is a problem for the staff who are all very happy to provide whatever they can to ensure you have a lovely stay,
The rooms are big with fabulous views, everywhere was spotlessly clean and the food was amazing! For those who prefer a slick, clinical and contemporary feel to their hotels I would say step away from this and try Hazlewood because it is interesting, unusual and a breath of fresh air! We had a fabulous weekend at Hazlewood House and would recommend it to anyone who wants to escape for a few days.

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely but I think the top floor rooms don ot yet have en suite facilities

“A Quirky Delight”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2011

Spent four nights here with my wife in a large front facing bedroom on the first floor. Nice welcome from receptionist & Lily - a rather more muted one from Daisy Cat - but cats are like that.. Ambience was just up our street. Hazelwood was comfortable, cosy, not boutique & not for posers. Attractive dining room & tasty food. Lovely silent surroundings. Lots of fun talking to other guests & the owners.
Good value for money.

Room Tip: Go for first floor rooms at the front
