We visited in October, like most to see the Dali museum. We weren't expecting much from Figueres, based on web reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised by the town, hotel and restaurant.
On arrival we found a free on-street parking space about 30 seconds walk from the hotel. At check-in we were given the unexpected bonus of a free wi-fi code for the computer in the basement.
We were really looking for a clean and convenient base, and at a cost of £54 for a double room we were expecting 'no-frills' accommodation. We were so surprised at how modern and immaculate the room and bathroom were (see photos). It was the best value hotel of our trip.
At night we took a walk around the old town and main plaza and the town had a very nice atmosphere. We returned to eat in the restaurant and were so impressed with it's beautiful decoration; lots of old photos, chandeliers and high backed chairs. Our only criticism would be that the chairs are completely straight backed and extremely uncomfortable, maybe adding cushions would help here. The menu was excellent, offering a mix of new fusion dishes and traditional Catalan dishes. Yes, the waiters are 'old school', very formal but helpful, and this was part of the charm of the restaurant. One even gave us a guided tour of Dali's private dining area at the end of our meal.
We would definitely recommend the hotel and it surpassed all of our expectations.
