We really enjoyed our 3 night stay at Hotel Rural Orotava, which is located in the centre of one of the prettiest towns on the whole island. The building originally belonged to a noble Canarian family & is considered to be one of the oldest in the town of La Orotava, dating back to 1585. Don't let that put you off though - the hotel is very well maintained throughout while retaining many of the old wooden features, which makes you feel as if you've ventured back to another era. We stayed on a half-board basis. The food was traditional Canarian fare which was worth the trip alone. Breakfast was continental style where you could help yourself to as much as you wanted (even more so if you go at a quiet time of year & you have the entire kitchen to yourselves, as we did!). The evening meal was served in the restaurant which is also open to the public and appeals to locals as much as tourists. In summary, if you want to experience the real, true Tenerife, go here.
