The setting is amazing and this makes up for a variable hotel stay experience. Very little information is given so basic things like check-in/out time, parking facilities, restaurant opening remain a secret until arrival. We visited mid-week but there were still quite a few guests staying.
Check-in felt more like entering another country. The welcome wasn't very friendly and the first words were passports please! Our room was spacious with a large bathroom and an enclosed balcony, purchased through a discount for 'Golden Years' which apparently start if either one of you is over 55!
We went off to discover the bar and lounge which is quite cosy and at 4 o'clock it was completely devoid of staff. We ended up having a beer, sat outside the cafe next door relaxing in the afternoon sunshine.
The restaurant opened at 12 and served right through to 10pm. We joined up with another couple for dinner who we had met in the lounge earlier. Both of them were fluent in Spanish and I think that this made a big difference to breaking through the very formal approach we had been getting from the staff.
The menu was very Canarian influenced. I had cabrito (kid) and my wife salmarejo (rabbit) washed down with local wine from La Oratava. The whole meal was well cooked and delicious. We had booked half-board so the meal was included, but we could have had a full three course meal anything off the menu for around €32 each.
After the meal, of course, it was out into the cold (bring something warm!) to see the stars. Wonderful clear sky at 2000m gives an amazing view of the heavens.
Warning to those who might want a wee dram after being out in the cold. The bar and restaurant shuts at 10:20 precisely.
Breakfast is very good and caters for every palate. Check out is at 12:00.
We decided to check out before going on a little 4km hike round Los Roques (just opposite the Parador). Just as well because I'd not noticed that there was over 150m rise and fall along the way and it took us over 2 hours to complete!
Room Tip: We stayed in a room (111) with a balcony, which gives great views out. The balcony is totally enclos...
