“A good base”

Just back from 3 nights in studio apt. Great location as a stroll down to the beach and prom and you are pretty central for good walks along to La Calletta in one direction and Los Cristianos in the other. The complex felt a bit grotty at first.Reception is in a sort of "plaza" with a couple of bars, restaurants, and a shop. We were in block A and walked past a row of" Wigan Arms" type bars etc within the complex-not our cup of tea- but others seemed happy with that.We never ventured back into the complex after that so couldn't coment further. Our studio apt was brilliant!! Very newly refurbished with 2 great balconies. One at the front with table and chairs. One at the side with 2 loungers. Flat screen TV.Well equiped seperate kitchen. Good shower room. The "murphy bed" was interesting!! Great idea- but the noisiest bed ever.
We had no maid service for our stay, but at £35pnt we weren't bothered.
All in all a great apartment in a great location at a great price.Would consider it again at this time of year.

Room Tip: We liked Block A as it was away from the less attractive parts of the complex but didn't explore...

“Generally a good deal”

The Sunset Bay Club is a resort located in the Adeje district of the Canary Islands, close to entertainment, restaurants and the beaches. While the property is available via most of the travel websites like expedia, this is more of a timeshare community than a regular hotel. You can reach the beach by walking about five minutes down the hill to several well-marked playas. There are also two pools on the property, and the grounds appear to be very well maintained.

My room was quite nice, in a quiet area of the resort with a kitchen, bathroom and balcony with lounge chairs. This was a studio room with a drop-down bed which was comfortable enough for me, with plenty of comfortable pillows and a nice duvet. I had no trouble falling asleep, especially with the ceiling fan overhead. My balcony was quite large with lounge chairs, a drying rack, and a table with chairs, overlooking more apartments and a small view of the Atlantic through some of the buildings. My bathroom was adequate with the tub, a bidet and toilet. A word of advice: there is no soap in the bathroom or apartment, so you will either need to buy some or bring your own from home. No trouble at all with hot water supply or pressure. On Saturday night, there was some kind of live entertainment out in the square in front of reception, and it was loud. While my room was far enough away that it wasn’t an issue, I’d imagine that anyone with a room close to the lobby would have had a loud night. I think that this particular party wound down before midnight, though.

There are numerous grocery stores all over the community. The kitchen has a stove, microwave, sink, small fridge and dishes, and a coffee maker. You’ll need to buy everything except the plates and basic utensils. Hiper Dino is a local chain of groceries with everything you will need, and there are several in the area. There is also a small supermarket on the compound right by the check-in desk.

There is on-site parking in their garage; however it is an extra 3 euro per day (very reasonable in my opinion). Around the resort, parking is sporadic and chaotic. If you drive here, park your car in the resort car park. For those who want to stay wired to the world, there is free wi-fi in the hotel lobby but not in the rooms, although I suppose if your room is close to the reception lobby, you might be able to access it from your room. One of the on-site restaurants offers free wi-fi for its customers as well.

I was hoping not to have to write this part, but on my last night the expected happened. At about 7:30-8:00 PM the management-timeshare touts came a-knocking’ at my door. The lady who claimed to be a concierge wanted to come in and have me take a ‘survey’ and give me a chance to get discounted coupons for the on-site eating establishments. When I politely refused, she started on a sob story about having to climb all these stairs to walk to my apartment (strange that she didn’t think about calling first before walking up). I guess this sort of thing comes with the territory, but it is annoying. Be firm and tell them politely to bugger off unless you want to be swindled into a long spiel about ‘vacation ownership’. If you are looking to buy a timeshare, I guess this would be a nice enough place to do it.

All in all, I’d stay here again. The good outweighed the bad and the apartment very nicely fit the bill of a good, safe room. Be aware that you won’t get daily room service, but this was not a problem in my case. The area is a nice place to take vacation, although it is certainly geared towards visiting Brits. You’ll find most any type of food here, and the beaches are certainly nice enough for a short holiday. Good luck finding breakfast before 09:00, though, even on the resort grounds. Take a tour up to Teide and marvel at the volcanic landscape. There are numerous tour operators that offer trips that can be booked either at the concierge desk or at any one of several outlets all along the beaches.

Room Tip: H block seems to be quiet.

I love returning to Sunset Bay. Check in was quick & painless. Always a treck with the cases to the room - Block G (top of hill) but you can wait for the golf buggy and driver if you wanted. Rooms have been upgraded recently with new sun loungers & flat screen tv's. Top pool area has new sun loungers & there is a pool bar run by Juan & his wife and son. Alex is there for entertainment. He runs killer pool, darts, quizzes & bingo. He is a young guy who fits in with all ages. Sinatras in the square is run by a married couple (Karen & Kevin) from Edinburgh. They do great food and have weekend enterainment. Beware !!! Kevin runs his own quiz - DO NOT ATTEND if you are easily insulted. I will be back at Sunset for NY 2013.

We've stay at the bahia principie all-inclusive for the past 6 years so decided on a change.Going sc 3 star we didn't know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised by the sunset bay.The rooms are big and well decorated. The bars can be noisey so dont stay in blocks D and C. We stayed in room D402 on the first night and had to move due to the noise.
We ended up in room F402 which was great. The restaurants in the complex are good but Cas tres and Sebastions are superb. Cas Tres was wonderfull and the staf were lovely I would def recommend sunset bay if your looking for a cheep week in the sun. For a 3 star 9/10. enjoy,

Room Tip: avoid blocks next to bars C D Maybe B.

“Kids loved it's central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Kids decided very last minute that they were coming out for Christmas/New Year and after spending 10 days with us on Garden City they were loathe to move here. However, it was the only sensibly priced accomodation I could find for them and at £300 for a week from 27th Dec was acceptable. They had a studio, G402, which is right at the top of the complex overlooking the now closed skypark. Those with mobility problems would find it impossible to reach with the small staircases leading from one level to the next but for three young adults this was no problem.
The room was very well equipped with a modern kitchen and bathroom, flat screen tv and a lovely balcony area with sun loungers and table and chairs. Nice touches such as complimentary toiletries and both water and juice in the fridge added to the homely/welcoming feel. Maids came daily and cleaned to a high standard, with towels replaced on alternate days and linen once during the weeks stay.
The pool area on the upper level is quite small and is mainly frequented by those with young children. The sunbeds are almost on top of one another and it does get very noisy, so if you don't want music blaring and sceaming kids head for the lower pool which is far more relaxing. Each pool area has a drinks/snack bar facility which is useful. The complex also has several shops and bars/restaurants available for those who do not wish to stray far.
Kids loved this place for its proximity to La Pinta and Torviscas beaches which are a 5-10 minute walk away and of course their favourite drinking haunt, The Beehive, along with the many restuarants and shops that are literally on the doorstep.
Despite their initial reservations they loved the complex so much that after 12 years staying in same complex as us they have decided to book here for next Christmas so it was a welcome find!!
