Was very nervous but need not have worried. A top hotel, immaculately clean, fantastic breakfasts. Restaurants were OK, did not try the Sushi, a bit pricey but not too bad - its a 5 star hotel. The pools were fabulous, I even had my haircut there and I have to say the best haircut in a long time. In terms of location it is a 10 minute taxi ride (circa 13 euro) from Las Americas and 25 min ride from the airport - circa 25euro. Really recommend two top restaurants in Las Americas: Meson Castellano and Meson Parrilla. They are literally next to each other. The former does not have a menu, they will tell you what they got, be it tapas, fish, meat but all top quality. The latter does have a menu but again really top top food. Expect to pay circa 100 euro inc a bottle of wine with starters but that will include a plate of iberico, large king prawns and other fish so that is top end, tapas for 2 was 70 euro again with a bottle of vintage cava. The taxi drivers know it by name and always very busy.
Back to the hotel, we had an upgraded premium room on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool area. No problems with noise or anything like that. The only gripe was our room was North facing and we got NO sun on our balcony. Yet I think others on the same floor did who were only a few rooms along, just the angle of the balcony (room 362). Not sure what the difference between ours and a standard room was. The rooms higher up were club rooms and looked a lot bigger. At the "beach" end of the hotel there is a super path along which there are bars and some restaurants within a 15 min walk. Only found them on last day so no idea what they like.
We did not use the spa though we did have a quick tour and have to say looks great. Fully equipped gym too.
As mentioned before by others the TV's are abit old hat in that a flat screen is more becoming, but the trade off is you could get BBC1, ITV (+1 for some reason..) BBC2, Sky News and a couple of others so I got my fix of Top Gear and wife Eastenders! Biggest complaint - no kettle, you get one of those coffee machines which does fresh coffee in effect, so you put water in and it drips into a pot. Its fine if you like fresh brewed coffee but if you want tea, not good. Take your own tea bags is my recommedation. The bathroom and shower were excellent, bed very comfortable. I wouldnt bother with room service - ridiculously expensive.
Food could be delivered to the pool area. A neat way of getting attention was every umbrella has what is in effect a pager. So, you press this button, the staff know the location of the umbrella and come and get your order. Poolside choice is a bit limited but good quality if a bit pricey - a club sandwich 15 euro with a few chips... but very nice!
In short, thoroughly recommended but take your own tea bags. It is not cheap but as stated it is 5 star and you get what you pay for. That said its not completely ridiculous except for their room services prices which are daft. Would def go again.
Room Tip: Depends if you want any sunshine on the balcony and if you want it morning, afternoon or all day. Ju...
