“Beautiful hotel in superb position”

Had a truly wonderful holiday at this hotel and are looking forward to returning later in the year. We had a ground floor room with a patio area overlooking the garden which is on same level as pools and sun lounging area so very convenient. We never had any problems getting a sunbed though some still continued to claim theirs early by placing towels on them but it really wasn't necessary as there were always plenty available. There is a sandy area with loungers and looking out to sea it's like being on an exclusive private beach! Note that guests from the sister hotel Riu Aracus across the road are allowed to use the 'beach' area but NOT around the pools as some thought and have recommended in some reviews. The towel edges are different and other than the sandy area, the loungers around the pools are monitored and Aracus guests were asked to leave. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and felt there was an excellent choice. Each evening there is an alternative menu to the extensive buffet where the main course is served to your table - well worth trying. Also a tip at breakfast time, at the far end of the dining room where they cook the eggs etc, there is a table with delicious freshly squeezed assorted juices. It was 3 days before we discovered them as there are the usual machine juices around the room so we didn't know any different - they seem to be a bit of a secret. Champagne is also available at the entrance to the dining room at breakfast and you can eat breakfast outside on the terrace overlooking the pool and garden area out to sea which is the perfect start to the day In the evening there are two sittings at 6pm and 8pm but you don't need to be there precisely at that time. We sometimes went to dine at 6.45 on the early sitting but you will need to leave the dining room by 7.50pm. There is also an opportunity to eat in their gourmet Krystal
restaurant by appointment - a head waiter comes around the dining room to your table to ask if you would like to book it, it is included in the package and there is no extra to pay. Food is beautifully presented and very nice though the menu is always the same. Stunning views over the gardens and sea from the window tables allocated on a first come basis. The cabarets are varied but only every other night, some good some ok! The resident band were brilliant, very talented and great to listen to. If you enjoy traditional/rock and roll/sequence type dancing you will love it but in our opinion the evening dancing will not appeal to younger couples who are not into quicksteps and sambas etc. That said we didn't dance but enjoyed watching others and thoroughly enjoyed the varied repertoire of the resident band. The bar and reception sitting area is dated and limited in seating especially as you can only get Internet coverage in that area so it can get overcrowded. All in all a fabulous hotel, beautiful gardens and outside seating/sunbathing area and superb location. You can't go wrong!

“Lovely stay at the Riu Palace!”

Returned here in the last week of January and had a lovely holiday. This time had a ground floor room opening out onto the garden with a terrace - this was very convenient for the swimming pools and access to the promenade and beach. Once again - excellent, friendly service from the staff and a very good choice of food offered at breakfast and dinner in the buffet restaurant. Very well presented! So nice to sit outside overlooking the sea at breakfast time! Looking forward to returning as soon as we can!!

Room Tip: Because of the shape of the building the room sizes increase on the lower floors - you need to be in...

“Best 4 Star Hotel we have stayed at in Tenerife”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Having stayed at numerous 4 star hotels in Tenerife over the years we consider this to be the best we have stayed at.
Having stayed here for 2 weeks in January we were very pleased that standards are as high as they were some 6 years ago when we last stayed.
It has an excellent buffet restaurant and staff who are most willing to attend to your needs.
The gardens and pool area are beautifully kept and include a very attractive lunchtime restaurant.
Sun loungers are plentiful so no problem for sun worshippers!
All in all good value for money.

Room Tip: We found our 3rd floor room to be most comfortable.

It was a nice holiday for a week! This hotel does what it says on the tin no more or no less. But can get expensive when on half bord.

“A good four star beach hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

The Hotel Riu Tenerife Palace is a large arch shaped hotel situated in a rather peaceful section of South Tenerife. We had a room on 2.nd floor with a breathtaking view of the neighbor island la Gomera. There was afternoon sun and a very beautiful sunset. The room itself was spacey with a lot of shelves and hangers for your clothes and a nice terrace with two armchairs – though no cushions for the armchairs. The bathroom was smaller than in other Riu hotels and the shower arrangement a little cramp for someone of nearly 2 meters of height. Shampoo coming from a large multipurpose bottle in the shower room – not from little bottles dedicated only to shampoo.
The reception is on the 6.th floor. We were greeted by the receptionists the minute we arrived and sat down with a drink. The whole procedure lasted only a few minutes - very efficient. We had unloaded our luggage in front of the hotel and I found a parking spot down the road – no problems there.
No wine, fruits or bathrobes however waited for us in the room as we are used to in other Riu hotels.
The hotel has a very large and well kept garden with two pools and a lot of sun beds. Every morning we saw a lot of guests occupying their favorite sun beds before 8 AM – but when we wanted one, we could always find vacant sun beds, so that their behavior did not disturb us. From the garden there is direct access to the path along the beach – you need a special key for that – and we enjoyed it for jogging.
The restaurant is large and does include the terrace in the morning. Breakfast plentiful with a section for diabetics – which we are not - but it is good to be able to choose a healthy meal. There were lots of fruit, cereals and dairy products and the restaurant features on the spot cooking of omelets – though maybe not of the quality of other Palace hotels.
We were on half board and again plenty of different things to eat including a choice of a course served at the table for dinner. However the quality all in all was not above that of other Riu hotels. A special feature is the restaurant Krystal, where you may book a table for the evening meal. They serve a four course menu with a wonderful view of Playa de Las Americas in the evening with the lights glimmering. The food was OK but two of the courses needed a more thorough preparation – a cake for dessert was so hard that we had to give up on it. Wine is somewhat expensive – just arriving from another Riu hotel we noticed that prices for wine were up by 1/3 here, and no sign of a carafe of local wine or house wine.
I had to work for one day and found myself in the lobby area with my computer and phone, as there is no internet access in the rooms. It must really be the time for the Riu chain to install wifi also in the rooms – then you would also avoid to see the many PC’s and even people skyping at drink hour in the lobby – it looked a little ridiculous.
The hotel is situated close to the fishing village of La Caleta with its many good restaurants, not far from Adeje, from where you can walk the Baranco del Inferno – though the path was closed for repair this time –and you are just ½ hour by car from the basis of Mount Teide with many wonderful walks. Several small beaches near the hotel – to the right with black lava sand to the left imported Sahara sand.
We will look forward to go back – but when we bring the grandchildren we would prefer Riu Arecas next door as a more child friendly hotel.

Room Tip: A quiet room does not mean a sunny room
