We stayed at the Jardin Tropical as a group of 'Trip Winners' through a work incentive. Arrival at the hotel was welcomed with a nice glass of Cava and a very efficient check in.
The reception area was clean, large and spacious with many seats and sofas placed around. It was also nice to see that the hotel wasnt a particular 'British' Haunt with most guests appearing to be German or Spanish.
One of the lifts was out of order but I was quite happy to carry my bag up the steps. My room was on the 9th floor (reception was on the 5th floor) room 936 and unfortunately for me right next to the Service lift that the maids and maintainance team used. This meant a fair bit of noise and clattering at about 7.15 in the mornings, which I will be honest did wake me every day.
The room (my room) was a bit dissapointing, it was quite small with a small balcony at the rear and a great view of the rear of the town and up to the mountains. Whilst the room was clean, It could have done with a really good 'deep' clean just on things like the tile grout...just a bit of attention to detail really. The bed was large and comfortable and the sheets were always changed and clean as was the towel linen. A suitable Flat Screen TV on the wall with a few basic English speaking channels, but plenty of others from the usual satelite stations.
The safe in the room would not lock (maybe it was user error, but I dont think so).
Apart from the position of my room (by the service lift) it was perfectly adequate to relax in and use as a base. The best bit apart the Jardin Tropical is the many reastaurants to chose from, the numerous spotlessly clean pools and just the immaculately kept grounds looking out over the sea.
Breakfast was an excellent Buffet affair, Cereals, cold meats, pastries, fresh panckaes cooked while you wait and of course the full range of cooked food to keep the Brits happy! There were always lots of waiters and chefs on hand to ensure everything was always topped up and fresh. It really was a pleasant experience and every table was replaced with fresh table cloths and linen after each diner left.
Tenerife itself was a bit of a mix-up. Come out of the hotel and turn left for the tacky, tired British Pubs, bars, gift shops or turn right and head to the back of the town for some very nice shops with all the (Genuine, not fake rip-offs) designer goods.
Mount Teide is definately worth a visit if you like that sort of thing. Absolutely incredible landscape and views of the volcano. Just ensure you take adequate warm clothing and wind-proofs. It may look sunny up there but it was bloody freezing even with the correct gear!
The best way is to hire your own car and set off relatively early to avoid the many, many coaches that head that way and can really slow up the drive.
The hotel is a 4 Star and would say this is an accurate reflection of the quality on offer.
