“Relativly pricey, but rooms, food and service were all exceptional.”

Staff at reception were genuinely very friendly and helpful - could not have asked for more when checking-in.

Staff inn the bars, restraints etc. were also excellent. On rare occasions certain members of staff came across a bit snooty.

We appeared to have been upgraded to the Casa Ducales section on the hotel, this was a pleasant surprise and the rooms were phenomenal (sea views (even though these had not been requested), large open balconies, fancy bathroom products etc. etc.).

The general pool area was good, and quite relaxing. It was nice that the location was near the sea and just off the Coastal promenade (great for a stroll). The gardens around the hotel were lovely, attracting lots of interesting birds. The architecture and setting of the hotel was phenomenal.

Breakfast and dinner buffets were some of the best I've experienced in a hotel.

Cost is rather high, but I suppose you get good value for the price. I agree with others on tripadvisor - the meal deal they offer you when you arrive is not really worth it! Drink prices in the hotel seem a bit high, however there are some nice restraints located a very short and safe walk from the complex.

I would definitely consider staying again.

“Beautiful hotel, excellent gardens”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel is situated just out of the main holiday area, a brisk 15 minute walk downhill (but uphill coming back!)

Check in was efficient and staff helpful.

We stayed bed and breakfast and on reflection this was the best option. We had a room overlooking the pools and garden area and the sea in the distance. The design of the hotel is superb but is showing its age in places.

This hotel is classified as 5 star but heavily discounted and this shows in the lack of maintenance of the decoration. Having said that, it is still beautiful. There were plenty of comfortable padded sunbeds in the beautifully kept gardens. The hotel has a policy of 'no sunbed reserving' and this was actually enforced, so always plenty of space whenever needed.

Our room was spacious with a nice balcony and super bathroom with twin basins, shower and tub. It was kept very clean.

The breakfast was plentiful, delicous omelettes freshly cooked, pancakes, in fact anything you could want, including super fresh fruit and tempting pastries. Some queueing was necessary and this could have been avoided with more staff on duty.

We had dinner at the hotel on our first night and were not overly impressed. Local restaurants do a better job for a more reasonable price.

Entertainment is available every night in the lounge and seemed to be OK.

In conclusion I would place this hotel as a good 4 star, and for the money paid we had a very good deal. It would not be particularly suitable for those not so mobile unless they wish to stay in the hotel all the time or pay for taxis.

Well done to those staff who do their best to keep up the standard.

Room Tip: The design enables most rooms to have a sea view. Ask for a south facing room to have the sun all d...

“Great place, Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

What a lovely place, we managed to get a deal so it was affordable. Several pools, excellent kids club, golf course and an amazing Spa. Service it tip-top, can't fault it, entertainment every night too. Clean, rooms excellent.

Our 7 day trip was "interrupted" for 2 days when 150+ Speedo-clad-Germans arrived on a Corporate do and proceeded to take every sunbed at <6am, it started sunbed wars, a Dutch guy took it really seriously... When the Germans went it became normal and relaxed again.

The FB food restaurant was really good, Cava for breakfast and a super buffet. Watch out for the Europeans, they don't queue so get your elbows ready. But the food is worth a tussle over. You can upgrade supper and go into the other themed restaurants, but we didn't bother as the buffet was great.

You can leave the complex and go on the promenade where there are 2-3 smartish bars at more normal prices in a 2 minute walk. You are right on the beach too, the sunbeds cost...as does everything. Right round the corner at the back is a supermarket, that's where I went to fill up on booze.

Oh they put some lovely jars of sweeties in our room every day which our 4 year old enjoyed. We thought they were comp, but apparently 7 Euros each, the most expensive jelly beans ever!!

Room Tip: I think they tell everyone they have been given an "upgrade".....

“Good but not quite great!”

We have recently returned from a week at Gran Hotel Bahia Del Duque which was let down by a some small negative aspects.
The resort is beautiful and kept very clean. It is a huge resort with lots of different pools, sunbathing areas and bars and restaurants to choose from. The breakfast buffet was excellent with endless choice and Las Aguas in the Villa area was by far the best meal we had during the week. Unfortunately the rest of the resorts restaurants are poor in comparison. The menus are strikingly similar with little choice. We did find an excellent Italian in Caleta called Rosso sul Mare, which we wish we had found earlier!
While staying at the resort there was a conference held for 500 Norwegians over 5 days. Although we did not have an issue with this, their behaviour was not always befitting of the resort. What's the point of having pool guidelines when nobody enforces them??
All in all a good resort but we won't be rushing back.

Dear client,

First of all we wish to thank you for choosing the Gran Hotel Bahía del Duque Resort for your holidays.

We are glad you enjoyed our breakfast and gourmet restaurant Las Aguas. However, we are sorry to learn that the other restaurants did not cover your expectations. The Resort has several themed restaurants (Spanish, English, French, Italian, International, Asian, ...) that aim to offer our customers a wide choice to cover different likings.
It would be a pleasure of us to welcome you back in our Resort. Please, do not hesitate to contact us and we will kindly inform you if there is an event on those dates.

“Fantastic”

We treated ourselves to a couple of nights away as a post Christmas break and we were not to be disappointed.
The bellboys took my car from me, after unloading it and parked it up for the two days. We were then greeted with a glass of Champagne, (alright, cava) before finding our room. The room itself was luxurious with chocolate covered strawberries and local spring water provided as a gift. As to be expected, everything was spotlessly clean.
Nothing was too much trouble for the, mostly friendly, staff who were, as previously mentioned, all in traditional national costume.
We only ate one evening meal in the hotel, which was at the Asian restaurant. We had to give that ten out of ten for the food , plus it was within our budget.Breakfast was included and as in previous reviews, there was almost everything you could think of. But, as also mentioned in previous reviews, the pre-cooked (Spanish only) bacon, sausage beans and scrambled egg were kept warm under lamps. Only they weren't kept warm at all, they were clap cold. I did mention this to the lady on duty at the restaurant entrance, plus a filled in a survey letting them know. I know that it has been taken on board, as I got an email from the hotel manager, thanking me for drawing his attention to the problem. However, it will be interesting to see whether the problem has been resolved
I tried the Thalassotherpy pool, which was excellent as were it's surroundings. A word of warning though, there is a type of shower thing, in the pool to stand under, while the pressure of the water massages your back. I was still aching three days after using it,
All in all, an experience of a lifetime, It was a bit out of our normal price range, with a simple small beer running at €4.70, but in keeping with the price of the accommodation I suppose
