“Try it - you get what you pay for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Went with my husband for relaxing week. Arrived at the hotel after nearly two hours on the bus from airport. Would definitely get a taxi next time. On the return trip there was lots of hanging about at other hotels waiting for people. I think many didn't realise they had to contact the transport people to confirm the actual pick up time as it only shows an approximate time on the paperwork.
Check in staff on reception were helpful and polite. We were allocated our junior suite quickly and we unpacked and went for dinner. The junior suite had a lovely sea view. Staff in the dining room work very hard and are to be well commended. The food was varied and always something that we could eat. Take an early dinner if you want the food to be hotter. There were usually canarian potatoes and pasta if you wanted a change frm chips. The hotel seemed quite busy and the dining room doesn't seem big enough to cater for a full hotel.
The only food we had from the snacks menu between meals was a cheese and tomato toastie. So can't comment otherwise. The drinks were adequate, although after initially being open, the pool bar seemed shut most nights and drinks had to be got from the Irish bar.
The animation team seemed to put on a good show for children but there did not seem to be much in the way of entertainment for adults.
The pool area looked good and was cleaned every day but many of the sunbeds had broken back pieces so you could not sit up on them. Not many used the pool I would imagine due to it not being heated.
We tended to sunbathe in the area beside the apartments at the back of the hotel which was quieter. Luckily that pool bar was open during the day so we didn't have to trek to the other bars for drinks.
The junior suites seemed on first glance to be fine until one day I put a light on over the sink area and saw tiny insects. I didn't see any cockroaches during my stay. There are a lot of steps but to be fair for older or infirm people there are lifts.
The maid service seemed fine and with clean towels, beds changed and made up every day except Sunday, maids day off. I can't comment on dirty floors as I always take slippers to wear in the rooms. But the sinks did not appear to have been cleaned during our stay. There were plenty of toilet rolls and towels.
I agree with one of the previous reviewers - take a pack of cards or something to entertain yourselves with. I read four books during my week's stay. On the Saturday night there was no sleep to be had as the local teenagers parked outside the hotel in a side street and played loud music and shouted at each other all night till 5 a.m.
We don't like going out of the hotel at night so we were a bit bored and ended up going to bed early most nights. Most other guests were German, Dutch or Italian. Not many English.
Overall, we had a pleasant week but not sure I would return unless a few things were changed.
Although I took a credit card I didn't use it. Heard from credit card fraud services today that my card number had been used for purchases in America. In future I will definitely make sure my cards never leave my person. Have been to Tenerife many times and holiday abroad twice a year and this has never happened to me before. Sad to say, but, goodbye Tenerife!!!

Room Tip: Junior suites in main hotel seemed better choice.

“Go elsewhere!!”

Had a horrible time here, neighbours above us reporting us for talking in our apartment!!! unreal. cockroaches everywhere, which make my life hell as im S**t scared of them lol. not a lot round about the hotel, do yourself a favour and get somewhere nearer the resort centre as it costs a fortune in taxis into the strip/ irish centre. pool was decent, drinks and food was poor plus its up a hill so if your not a great walker then you will hate this! Most my reviews are upbeat but really cant think of anything nice to say about this place :(

just got back on the first of december,we went for a relaxing weeks holiday and we got it .we didn't go for the entertainment as we knew it was poor anyway but it must take my hat off to the chef,i thoroughly enjoyed the food,it wasn't a glorious spread but tasty it was quite simply the best i've tasted.the rooms were clean and tidy.we came here four years ago and we stayed in a junior suite.my wife adored it and there seemed to be more life in the hotel.maybe because the pub bar was open.i would definitely come back again.

“cheap winter sun break”

this was our second visit to this hotel having been the same time last year .at that point it had just chnged hands and we were well satisfied enough to book again .on reading recent reviews though i wondered if the hotel had gone down hill . i dont think so !
we booked a junior suit again and these are very spacious and clean with very comfortable beds.the maid was in every day and i have no complaint about the standard of work or trust .in fact the whole hotel was kept spotless with cleaners working till late at night and early in the morning .
all staff were polite and nothing was too much trouble ,the food was varied and always plentyfull if any trays were empty you didnt have to wait long for a fresh one ,the staff were sretched at times and some times tables were not set but they were cleared and i soon helped my self to cutlery not a problem .since last year they had put extra seating outside which was nice some were for dining and some for just drinking and we spent many an evening sitting around the pool area which i think is a lovely setting and not something you could do at home in november .however the entertainment was poor worse than previous year but after a few drinks we nipped down front to one of the bars its about 15 min walk and coming back we had taxi only 4 euro !
dont no if we just lucky but nothing here spoilt my holiday for the price we paid we were comfortable ok its in need of a bit of updating but its clean ,food is good and staff are friendy .we dont go away looking for things to complain about we make the most of our holiday last year we met some good people and we keep in touch when they heard we had booked again they also booked wehad a great reunion whith some happy times around the pool bar . many people this year thought it was a good hotel and many said if you read reviews on the place you wouldnt come .cant believe some of the comments ive seen .
Its a good value holiday and we have no complaints we have been to 3 star hotels where the room was bad(we complained and were moved ) and food was awfull and yet reviews were great ,the Playa Real is only 3 star at best but its not bad whith a bit more investmentit could be great .but for what i paid i was happy

Room Tip: we have only stayed in the main hotel (junior suit ) other apartments in a block to side of hotel al...
